I have also been around for those previous promotions to the top tier, and you are correct, it does feel different. Each time before I always felt we had a decent enough side, and would give a good account of ourselves. OK the 68-9 season turned out to be a nightmare, but many of our performances were way better than the results.
But the 73 and 83 sides did very well in the big League the next season.............guess football was a very different world then

I would take an FA cup win - YES. The Prem cannot be won by us - ever. So an FA Cup win and a period in the Champoionship - we could be back up in a season - it could be 100 years before we win a major honour again.

The Prem is exciting at the moment for us - it's new, but as we, and most clubs, have 0% chance of competing with the top clubs, let alone winning it - it is a bit of a joke as far as a competition tbh.

No way. The FA Cup is rapidly going the way of the League Cup (never thought I would live to see it so devalued). Give me 17th in the premiership anyday.

the first couple of seasons in prem will be good if we stay up.. but eventually u become an everton, stoke etc teams who dont have enough to win anything and generally play for nothing.

Based entirely on my current mindset, with the lack of player in activity, Ticket prices, Tango back in the limelight, and various other lesser issues -

We're almost certainly doomed for the drop. IMO
So you're actually offering me a trophy and a succesful and enjoyable Cup run to savour in a season of dispare. Yep, I'd take that.
Especially if, for the greater good, it hastened the departure of T&C (which it surely would) and the strong possibility of another season like last to follow.
Only, this time, without the FA charges to taint it and with a parade an i ing on a very sweet cake.

Cup winning memories during a season of pain for longer term gain, no brainer.

                            No.

While a cup success/run would be great its more important we stay up, lose little and lard and steady the ship with new owners, commitment and more consideration for the fans and realistic ticket prices.

I would take the FA Cup

we could get promoted again but may never win a cup in my lifetime so i would grab the opportunity with both hands
its New Era number 8 i tell thee, bring on the fireworks

Can anybody tell me who won the FA Cup in 2003, 2005 or 2001?
I know Blackburn were the last team to win the Prem apart from Man. U, Arsenal, Chelsea,---1995, I know saints and stoke made it, but lost, pompey won, but that's it.
