  • New ground on Loftus Road

Just wondered if we had any experts on here, who could say if we knocked down Loftus road would it be possible using modern building technology to build a 25 -28 thousand stadium on the same land.

Not sure we would get permission and maybe would have to buy some house for say 15 million, but surely this would still be a cheaper option than buying land elsewhere.

    Any views ?

You would have to buy up all the houses in Loftus and Ellerslie -- the very houses which the club actually used to own some years ago!
Don't think we could go any higher than we have already, because of light issues, unless those houses were no longer there...

the only why to make lr bigger is you would have to dig down deeper into the foundations i dont know if thats possible.

Is this actually true and if so, when did the club sell them?

Anything to get rid of the Stand pylons which restrict the view, in this day and age and if rebuilt they should be able to do it without them.

Take it from someone who works on major excavations for a living, that is not an option.

how come the club haven't announced anything on this topic? it's obvious that in order to be a big club our ground needs to be bigger than 19k...we all know we can't stay at the loft the way it is...surely we can't just go on for a couple of seasons without an official view on this matter.

In Construction almost ANYTHING is possible --- the cost is a whole different ball game and would make any redevelopment of Loftus Road to the levels required a no-no due to the land locking of the site.

We did own a few of the houses around the ground but not all.

The real villains in this situation are Chris Wright, DD and LB of H&F who c0cked up us having the whole of the school end site when it was up for grabs and instead houses and a smaller school were the result.
I was fuming then and I still am everytime this subject comes up!
I need some time in the sunshine, I gotta slow it right down.

There are two major problems at LR. First is that due to the close proximity of houses the stands would not be allowed to go significantly higher and secondly as they can't go higher they would have to increase in depth. There are possibilities to 'improve' on the existing on both fronts but not by big amounts. However, couple some redesigning of slightly higher stands and a more sumken playing surface and it would be possible to add an extra 7000 seats. Especially if the stands were designed properly and using new translucent roofing materials. But any new stadium needs other 7 day a week infrastucture around it, such as hotels, function suites etc, and that is what we don't have the space for around LR.

This lot wont put their hands in their pockets for an extention or new stadium, would ruin there concept of a boutique stadium.

cant be done.not enough space.as for digging down, this means the stands move closer to the pitch,so this is really only an option where you have lots of room between the existing stands and the pitch,or a really big pitch that you can afford to shorten.Neither is an option at LR,due to the close proximity of the stands to the pitch, and the small playing area we already have

I live not far from Brighton and although they have waited for a while playing in squalid conditions they have a magnificent stadium which opened this week, we are being overtaken by 'smaller clubs' due to them having the correct plans in place and allowing their fanbase a way back also allowing for growth.
We on the other hand are just falling behind and the longer we wait the worse it will get i'm afraid.

Just check it out, they even have a webcam.

How about when westfield shopping centre was built. Does anyone have any knowledge of how far any options were investigated there?

Only way to do it is SA road side. Even take away the fish tanks and put the seats back as it was in the 70's.
