Ayia Napa was mental when I went there about 15 years ago. Can agree that Protarus is much nicer and Fig Tree Bay is well worth a visit.

Word of warning if you go up towards the border and go out on a inflatable, careful you do not enter Turkish Cypriat waters. Chap from our hotel strayed into their waters and was hauled from the sea by armed guards and detained by the Turks and finally allowed to pass back through the checkpoint in the capital

Yep, it's all about North of the Border here as well!

Girlfriend hails from Girne / Kyrenia (via sheffield randomly!) where David Haye trains pre-fight.

lovely place, go there whenever we can...

Apparently he is in the same village as my mother in law, but i have never seen him! We are going out to watch the fight in hamburg though, so watch out for my qpr/shepherds bush ensign flag, and her north cyprus flag on TV!

I didn't want to be rude but that's what all the Cypriots will tell you and the same stories. Go to Oroklini and visit Peter Andre's mansion

Not any more you can come and go when you please.

The prices shot up in whole of cyprus because of Euro + Vat from 3% to 15%.

Food is still cheaper then UK but rest is same or even more

Total nonsense mate! There is extremely low crime there, i have never heard anything like this at all and I have spent a lot of time there and got married there! To be fair, the greeks do talk a load of old pony about the north of the island, which they lost when they started persecuting ethnic turks in 60s and 70s. Did you know that the Greek cypriot terrorist group EOKA also killed British soldiers at that time?

people on the north of the island i found to be less friendly and less hospitable than those in the south. Definitely got the feeling they are not too keen on the English.

I amnot doubting your experience, but they dont have a problem with the English. The Greeks on the other hand have a major problem with us having huge bases on their land, but they wouldnt tell you that while you are paying them to eat in their restaurant or stay in their hotel! You could even say that the Turks in the north can be quite complimentary about us, as we apparently stopped them getting more of a pummelling before Turkey stepped in.
End of history lesson, lets move on!

Actually found the greek cypriots far far more friendly than the turkish side.

Sorry touch just agreeing with others because I experienced the greeks to be far more welcoming, whether thats just a language thing i'm not so sure.
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

Weare, i think their tourism industry is much more developed and they therefore understand our customs and culture and how to interact with us generally better than those in the north, so you may well be right. Its not an anti english thing as suggested by previous posters though!

To be fair Cyprus was Greek long before the Turks left Turkmenistan, and decided to try to take over the whole of Europe. Also It's not like the place was divided before the war, Greeks and Turks lived in both south and North. Just the hositilities of the mainland countries were played out in Cyprus. Main issues to this day are that Turkish cypriot land has been maintained in the south whilst land belonging to Greeks in the North has been sold illegally to *****'s who Cherie Blair likes to defend, and tbh if she's on your side you havent got a leg to stand on.

Just read one side of the story then mate, both sides did some terrible things,, true greek land is sold but so is turkish land in the south sold, for example Larnaca airrport's expansion is built on turkish land, Re Blair can't argue on that one
