We have now reached our goal of Premiership football and for all fans this is an exciting proposition, something we have dreamed about for many years.
We have seen our club go through the lows of relegation, administration to the most enjoyable season us fans will ever remember.
One thing still divides fans more than ever and that person is Gianni Paladini. (notice the name, gives slight cringe to the usual suspects)
The fans who had close ties with the former regime are the ones more likely in the first instance to show a total dislike for the guy> the ones who had a major voice as part of some QPR organisation or could be influential on what things went on behind the scenes. Thats not a bad thing, but times move on and with that, the significance of those individuals becomes pretty much non existent. No more can we influence people at board level. Those people are the most harsh in there views
No denying that when you speak about Gianni Paladini it sends shivers down some supporters spine, just the mention of his name seems to send people into overdrive leaving them with the impulse to attack ones views, some of which turns into nasty attacks if a person is losing an argument.
I'd rather look at the club within and present facts..
Neil Warnock has complimented publically and privately the work done by Gianni Paladini, conveniently this never gets focused on.
Ask any player what they think of Gianni Paladini all to a man, they like him. You only have to see the massive man hug both Taarabt and Mackie given to Gianni on the field after we won promotion.
What most civilised people do is move on, look at Marc Bircham for example. I never thought in a million years he would be back after the fallout before, but he like all of us has the clubs interest at heart and moves on.
Unfortunately many fans cannot do the same.
The FA ruling has enabled fans to jump on the bandwagon and blame one individual, even though quite clearly the FA have charged the club only. Does this mean that if we had gone up as champions without any FA hearing, supporters views would have changed?
No of course, it simply added fuel to the fire.
If we had gone up with no ruling over our heads, the usual suspects would be along to give another reason as to why he should leave the club. I would have expected his "time is up" or "time to ditch him " lines to pop up on all mesageboards.
Of course like any individual he has made mistakes. Some of the signings we made we were shocking, treatment of Ian Holloway and some incidents embarrassed the club and whilst they were not all his fault, ultimately being chairman it was his responsibity. Its certainly divided the fan base, but now with premiership football around the corner, surely its time to move on?
All past chairman have a tough responsibility to keep fans happy. I don't buy the argument that he came as a non qpr fan, because we've certainly had one or two chairman in the past who come along with that label and certainly the current board have no QPR background either.
This club has spent many years in deep finanicial difficulty, because of mis-management in the past. Most of the mis-management were made late nineties/early this century.
Whether you agree or disagree, I strongly believe that we could have ended up like Luton Town and very likely under another chairman, we would either had gone into administration or been relegated. How we managed to maintain our championship status is beyond me, who are we supposed to congratulate on that? If we cannot applaude someone for bringing in a top investor, who are we supposed to congratulate?
If we followed the path many fans wanted, we would have been in dire straits. Many people calling for the mans head now, were doing so since 2005. if he had gone when they first wanted, we would definitely not be in this position now, unless of course our former owners would have met and encouraged Bill Gates to invest, which seems unlikely. We have gone from a club struggling to get Sellotape Sponsors to a club that now, can pretty much name your price on anyone wanting to be involved with the club.
It might well be time to move on for Gianni Paladini, who knows? ( I can picture another squirm on peoples faces as his name is mentioned), but as a small family club we have far exceeded anyones expectations. I did think that being in this position that some humble pie would have been eaten. Absolutely no chance of that, if we are starting to struggle in the premiership its already obvious whose name will be first on some supporters lips.
In life we always need a scapegoat, no better one than Gianni Paladini (another face cringer for the usual suspects), reality is even though we've gone through our ups and downs, without him we would not be playing the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham next season.
By the way expect a 14 pager and a person who agrees, to be attacked personally on this forum
