I have heard on good authority the following:
The case was not as open and shut as the FA first thought, we did not actually break any rules set by the FA or FL. The FA have been trying to pin something on us and still are. Our defense team have acknowledged the FA are still trying but have confirmed that as we have not broken any rules, they are unable to dock us any points and we have therfore requested that the trophy can be lifted.
The FA are currently trying to prove 2 things
1) That Paladini is not a "fit and proper person" and have requested the PL's view on this as they have stricten guidelines on this
2) Whether the 3.5m quoted was an attempt to mislead more than the fans (scare other clubs into thinking we were spending big).
No decision on punishment yet, but have been confirmed that a points-deduction is now off the table.
