Camp instead of Kenny and Paul Lambert instead of Warnock.

Taarabt and Gorkss in the team.

Just Football: Championship 2010-11 Team of the Season
5 May, 2011 James McMath England, Europe, Latest

With the Championship 2010/2011 season now drawing to a close, Norwich City up and QPR joining them (nearly), Just Football’s resident Championship connoisseur James McMath picks his star performers from this season’s campaign. In 4-2-3-1 formation:

    Goalkeeper: Lee Camp (Nottingham Forest)
Though Forest’s promotion push has been far from flawless, particularly towards the business end of the season, Camp has been an outstanding performer for Billy Davies’s men. An ever-present for the Reds in the league, the 26-year-old has kept 13 clean sheets during a season that has seen him break into the Northern Ireland team – despite playing at Under-21 level for England.

    Right-back: Kevin McNaughton, (Cardiff City)
Bluebirds boss Dave Jones has chopped and changed his back four plenty of times this season, but Scotsman McNaughton has rarely been left out. The silver-haired 28-year-old has operated in both full-back positions, as well as at centre-half to help Cardiff’s tilt at promotion.

Centre-back: Kaspars Gorkss, (Queens Park Rangers)
The Latvian defender has been a cornerstone of an R’s defence that has kept the most clean sheets in The Championship. Always a threat from set-pieces, the ex-Blackpool centre-back has weighed in with three goals.

    Centre-back: Anthony Gerrard, (Hull City)
Gerrard took no time at all to establish himself as a Tigers fans’ favourite after arriving on loan from Cardiff City on a season-long loan. Committed and opinionated, everyone at the KC Stadium would love to see the Liverpudlian commit on a permanent deal. A reliable part of City’s defence this season and scored five goals.

    Left-back: Daniel Fox, (Burnley)
Fox has always been a steady presence for the Clarets but seems to be loving life since Eddie Howe took charge. Technically superb, Fox offers a valuable outlet under Howe’s possession-based approach and the 24-year-old has seven assists to his name – the second highest at the club.

    Centre-midfield: Jonny Howson, (Leeds United)
Promoted from League One last season, Leeds’ drive towards successive successes has been powered by local lad Howson. United’s skipper at 22, he has led by example with his infectious energy. He scored 10 goals, including a stunning perfect hat-trick at Scunthorpe in October.

    Centre-midfield: Andy King, (Leicester City)
The spark in Sven Goran Eriksson’s engine room, King has maintained his superb form from last season, despite the Foxes’ promotion push fading in the latter stages of this campaign. The 22-year-old Wales international has 14 goals and four assists to his name this season.

    Right wing: Jimmy Kebe, (Reading)
Pacy and direct, Kebe has been one of the stars of Reading’s post-Christmas rise to prominence.

The Malian 27-year-old has skinned full-backs on both sides of the park as the Royals have marched into the play-off picture with a blistering run of form.

Attacking midfielder: Adel Taarabt, (Queens Park Rangers)
Taarabt is the Championship’s outstanding performer this season and, from an early stage, looked determined to walk the walk after talking the talk for so long. The Moroccan’s magic has never been in doubt, but his temperament and concentration levels have. An unlikely but happy marriage between the flamboyant playmaker and no-nonsense manager Neil Warnock has left all parties smitten.

Left wing: Scott Sinclair, (Swansea City)
Sinclair has only three assists to his name this season. That’s not much for a winger, but what he lacks in providing goals, he more than makes up in scoring them. The 22-year-old has netted 23 times for the Swans this season, since joining from Chelsea for a reported fee of £500k. Clearly ready to play at a higher level, that is a real bargain.

Centre forward, Grant Holt, (Norwich City)
While his Norwich team-mates have illuminated the Championship with attractive, free-flowing football, Holt has been busy doing the dirty work, winning headers, holding up the ball – and scoring the odd goal. Norwich’s top-scorer in their League One-winning campaign last season, many doubted Holt, at 30, could repeat those antics at a higher level. He has responded with aplomb, netting 22 goals in the league, including a hat-trick in the East Anglian derby to secure heroic status.

Substitute 1: Dorus de Vries, (Swansea City)

An ever-present for his club, with one of the meanest defences in the division.

Substitute 2: Russell Martin, (Norwich City)

The ever-present right-back has excelled for the Canaries this season, proving a reliable presence at the back, while posting a threat going forward. Scored five goals from right-back.

Substitute 3: Max Gradel, (Leeds United)

After taking a few weeks to find his feet, the wide man became a crucial part in Leeds’ formidable attacking line-up, scoring 17 league goals from the wing.

    Substitute 4: Chris Eagles, (Burnley)

Another who fits in perfectly with manager Eddie Howe’s ideal. Tidy and technical, Eagles has scored 15 goals and provided 10 assists.

    Substitute 5: Danny Graham, (Watford)

Graham’s rise to prominence has been slow and steady, but the North Easterner has confirmed himself as a proven goalscorer at Championship level. The division’s top scorer with 24 goals.

    Manager: Paul Lambert, (Norwich City)

After guiding the Canaries to promotion last season, the softly spoken Scot has ensured the momentum has not faded. His team have played their way to the brink of promotion, winning plenty of admirers and twice hammering arch rivals Ipswich along the way.
