Do we fans have a part to play in this Faurlin transfer saga?

Fans will always want big players bought in - that is why it is good that they have nothing to do with running their football clubs. But there is no justifiction for telling lies to the fans in this way.

Strong leadership means making hard decisions for the better good. That means honesty even when it is not what the fans want to hear.

Okay but looking ahead when The Board as I suspect they will go all cloak and dagger about transfer budgets in the PL. Will fans demand big money signings or will this incident be a reminder to as to what happens when it all goes wrong?

It would not surprise me at if we had a small section of our support still talking about the CL

What has gone wrong, Faurlin has been a revelation and imagine the praise QPR FC would have got, for finding someone so good and paid so little for him. It only goes wrong when people lie, cheat and deceive, which is certain board members / directors specialty, not the fans.

Okay what I mean is if our expectations exceed reality again, will we be able to reflect on this incident or will we not learn from it. Personally I think there is a lesson for all involved here whilst the fans can't be blamed for what The Board done moving forward we must surely stop using old quotes from Briatore and ST pricing to justify calling for massive expenditure?

I really do not get your point, as we have never had massive expenditure, just massive ST price increases. Also, I think we will do what Blackpool and Burnley done in the PL and have a budget of around 10-15m (under the current owners) and if we are relegated, we will make money from the experience but I think ST prices will go up 50% and cheap child tickets will be moved to the school end / lower loft.

Agree with Paul on this, not our fault the club lied about Fourlins fee, they also lied about the number of ST's that had been sold, which was not a lot hence the lie about fourlin, to improve sales.

The £20 fans were treated like shoite, and at the back of this i see the shadow of a silver headed mediterranean type who wear's blue glasses.
              They seek him here.................

Paul sometimes I think you just like disagreeing for the sake off it, I think the point I have made is quite clear.

It relates to fans expectations at the time and the sort of expenditure fans expected to see which made The Board feel the need to inflate the fee in the first place....what is so difficult to understand about that?

You may not agree with my opinion but please don't tell me I have not expressed it in such a way which can't be understood.

Again you are wrong, as you are blaming the fans. The board raised the fans expectations by promising a better match day experience, better players etc, etc, but had no intentions of following through and just rode rough shod over fans loyalty.

When it looked like those loyal lap dogs were not going to fall for the same ******** twice, they chose to deliberately lie over what they paid for someone to hopefully get more ST's sold. I can still see the Sky reporter giggling as he read it out on Sky sports news.

I'm not blaming the fans, half a dozen times I have repeated on the thread the Board are to blame. All I have question is that have we as fans had a part to play in this. I knew the way you'd predictably turn this thread into this type of debate Mason, anyway I'll let others contirbute as its going to go off at tangent.

W12Ranger , when Briatore and co saved us from the mire, a big thank you must go to GP here, they came in all guns blazing promising Premier league and champions league in four years, Zidane as manger etc etc. ST prices went through the roof and some of us bought into the dream so as a fan my expectations did go up ten fold. Exciting, at the time, signings of Ledesma and the spanish guy from Real Madrid (forgotten his name already!)got us all dreaming, but I have to disagree with you we the fans had no part to play, we just went along with what we were fed. Unfortunately some were priced out but thats 'supply and demand'.

If Billionaire owners say such things and raise expectations what do you think fans will do?

Falsifying statements on transfer fees is just another one of their spins.

They screwed up for the first two years but as I recall they 'introduced' a four year plan, so reaching the PL in three seasons ain't too bad actually.

Expectations were and are still high from fans and quite rightly so but we are noway responsible for any f*ck ups with regard to running the club or transfer dealings.

The sad thing about this saga is that IF we loose points, and miss out on promotion our fans will stay away and come August we'll be back to 11K crowds as people won't fork out stupid amounts of money as we have done for three years now. I have spent far more this season on supporting my team than I perhaps should have but I wanted to enjoy the glory and watching a winning team. If things go pear shaped I will be very bitter and feel let down by QPR and GP etc etc. I will never stop supporting the R's but I may think about how much of my hard earned cash I will give them in the future.

Do not try and blame us , the fans, in some way for the way our owners/chairman etc have operated.
22nd February away v Charlton is the 40th Anniversary of my support of QPR and my first game. Away v Chelsea 3-3 23rd Feb 1974. 40 years of pure magic!!

I go back again to the way the Club reported the signing of Faurlin. I believe they said it was a deal WORTH around £3.5M? Now you can call it semantics if you like but did they ever tell us they had PAID that figure? Arguably we can say the deal was worth that if Ali came in, performed and caught a few eyes (Celtic for example were thought to be interested?) then maybe he would have been sold on for that kind of money.

As for the original question? Well I don't think we are to blame, notwithstanding the fact many demanded that the tight owners put their hands in their pockets and spent some of the small change they had. By the same token, actual transfer fees are very rarely declared - deals seem to be undisclosed all the time and (as said by Jordan yesterday) Clubs do this all the time - so we are no different from anyone else?

I think maybe it was just me and a few others I know but it became clear after short time excatly what the deal was at the club. Yeah I had expectations initially but they did fade, I certainly would never hold the CL quote up as a stick and bash Briatore with it and I understood why ST prices were hiked up even though I wasn't happy.

I just wondered really whether The Board felt under pressure to appease our expecations as fans and I was questioning what part we had to play in that...however, this debate has somehow turned into a one about blaming the fans which was not the original point.

We obviously craved a big signing and the fans felt we were going nowhere, so up pops a deal worth 3.5 million for Faurlin. Think most of us, never believed the full amount was paid up front, but at the same time doubted whether he would be any good.

Its the same thing with Flavio, who us fans took a dislike to because we felt he was interferring. The club could not allow protests to continue, otherwise we would be in freefall. So the club hierachy decided for him to take a back seat from the fans. Reality is he is still very much involved and goes games more than any of the board.

Season tickets were another issue, where 10,000 was I think the announcement, reality is now-where near that but all this excites fans.

The best bit of business we did was getting in Warnock, even than we had a few questions about him and even more questions about his signings.

                            So its swings and roundabouts

Pete do you think this inflated price tag was due to GP or Flavio? I have a feeling it was the latter and GP is the scapegoat.
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

Good point and a good question WeAre. Could it also have been Ali Russell's idea?
