  • If You were a proessional footballer . . . . .

    could you play against QPR????

So here's the scenario. You've supported Rangers since you were a kid and play for your local team. Then some scout comes in and signs you for someone like Man Ure, Chel**** or ****ford or anyone for that matter. A few years down the line you progress and are promoted to the first team. That season you're due to play against QPR in the league or maybe a cup match. Could you do it? Or even worse what if you played and scored against the R's???

I've often thought about this since i was a kid. For me i'd have to have it wrote into my contract that i wouldn't play against us. FFS i couldn't imagine playing against us or even worse scoring against us. If i was picked and played against us and was presented with a goal scoring opportunity i'd just blaze it over the f****** bar and take the consequences after. Ok i know its your job n all but there's no way i could possibly play against Rangers. I know this is all fictional but what if? Wud love to hear ppl's views on this. Just wondered how Cookie, Bircham etc etc felt about this too.

They are called professionals for a reason. I have never heard of any player not playing and trying against the team he supported as a kid. I think most professional players lose the their loyalty to a club anyway as tyhey develop loyalties to others.

They still say they support X, Y or Z, but it isn't as pure.

If you would deliberately miss - and let your team mates and the fans that pay your wages down, and not having pride in your will to be as good as you can -then you would be a disgrace IMO, but it is not really relevant as an attitude like that would mean there would be no way you would ever have what it takes to make it anyway.

I see what you mean norvern but can you imagine the club if you were to mention it, even to one of your team mates what you planned on doing.
It doesn't just affect the one game because you also have games that cause positions in the league to alter and you could say most games therefore are affected.
Definately wrong way to go, I don't see Rooney playing any different for Man U when he plays against Everton do you?
I wonder how many managers take it into consideration though and if it would be better if you played for a team that was in a different division. Interesting point though norvern.

I would play against QPR. No excuse not to. If I did score though, I wouldn't celebrate.

Probably the best way. I think fans would understand too.

Professionals that play the game do not have the same affinity to clubs as fans, hard core fans have the club in there blood, players would be able to play against a side they support, easily, its there job and they play for money not points! Remember pro players have been groomed since the tender ages of nine or ten to play pro football, spending more time playing than travelling to watch a team, so players support teams yes, but fans live and breath teams there's a big difference.

Nah, my professionalism would be put aside whenever I came up against QPR.
No way could I do my utmost to beat the club I've loved and supported all my life.

Some great replies cheers. I know i couldn't do it for sure but i understand the professionalism thing and it being their job and all that. Ok so as professional as you are, and on the last day of the season you play for a team who face QPR. If you win QPR are relegated and in the 90th minute you have a chance to score and send Rangers down wud u?, cud u? surely u would slyly slip it past the post lol. I know i would

Look at NW, very professional about QPR vs Sheff U
We won 3-0 on both occasions showing he didn't hold out
Even when Sheff United were in the S**t NW knew his players, team and fans needed the points just as much (probably more)
Obviously he was sad about Sheffield United's position but he has been more concearned with being title winners
QPR, remember that name, you'll be cursing it later

You're a professional so of course. Again it wouldn't be nice but if you scored you wouldn't celebrate. Hence, i know Smith actually played for Watford, but he's a watford supporter too and didn't celebrate quite so much the other day!
