I have always thought that Matt was a player who could hack it in the Premiership with his composure on the ball AND playing alongside a proven Premiership quality centre back. His early season form (Ipswich away- Warnock wa singing his praises) was very encouraging. Has his total confidence collapse masked a real natural ability? I was reflecting on his error for Bellamy's goal and suddenly everything was shouting at me= poor technique- but is that fair? Is it possible that a confidence implosion ( and he is clearly a sensitive lad) can send a false signal on technique. I am not sure. We should not forget his still relative youth . I really want to believe in him and still on balance feel he can blossom alongside a quality mentor. Thoughts?

The worrying thing is his lack of consistency, not from game to game but from minute to minute, i've always thought he could step up, still young enough, i'd stick with him although his confidence seems shot to pieces.

To be fair those four could ruin quite a few centre backs!
I still think he could make it as a centre back in the prem ( not top drawer) he will have to man up though and come out of this hesitant stage he finds himself in.

He'll be fine in the Prem. Only centre back with a football brain! He is still so young. Only defender we have who can play right back, left back or centre back. So important in the Premiership.

Connolly could be good enough for the prem. I would like to see him play with a big bully CB like Shittu. Orr and Gorkss are the weak links in our defence IMO.

                    Do me a favour??

What 3 bad games in 44??

By your standing our whole defence should all be got rid off. Orr messed up again for the goal today and Gorks was far worse on Sat at Cardiff.

To be fair both full back areas are a massive concern to me, i agree play Connolly with a big commanding central defender, but he still needs to focus on his game and try to improve areas of it.

Not mentally sound was the words I heard today in the Platinum bar from an ex Ranger that said he's off in the summer.

Yeah Connolly does need to up his game in some departments. Wish we had of got Naughton in January. Orr does some decent things but overall is not good enough for a top two champ side.

If you believe that, you'll believe anything.

The guy is still so young. Shittu and Hall are both much older and have failed in the Premiership. They young kid has had about 3 bad games this season. If you were there on Sat you would have seen that Gorks was far worse on Sat. Gorks was poor again today. Terrible headers in the 2nd half.

In the Premiership you need players who can play all over the park. And he is the only once who can do that. It's a squad game.

Orr was at fault for the goal today. He was lucky that Paddy saved him against Derby the other night in the 2nd half.
