Jay Bothroyd's performance yesterday and our defence

At the game yesterday, and Cardiff were well up for this.
Jay Both, gave a near complete centre forwards display yesterday. A fantastic goal, superb hold up play; the ball stuck to his foot , and completely bossed both our CB's.
I they don't go up, we should certainly look to get him.

Yesterday, Gorrks was a disaster, with Connolly not much better.

For the 1st goal, KG gets dragged wide and out thought, for the second goal , Connolly totally out of position.
Time and time again, Bothroyd got himself between the 2, held the ball up and brought others into play.

For a big guy, how the hell does KG get so bossed and pushed around?
MC I can understand, so when JB was pushing him around I wash surprised, Connolly must only be 11stone!!

Next season in the Premiership we need x2 new centre backs. One battering ram type and one ball player.
Today was clear evidence that Connolly and Gorrks aren't good enough and never will be.

Agree Jeffro and I said very similar in another post.

Infact I would go as far to say the whole defence including both full back won't be good enough. The lack of pace is frightening. I also mentioned a point where Connors asked Bellamy if he was ok. I thought that was disgusting and Neil took him off. The comments that neil said after the game on bbc Jeffro is that he said 1st half we defended like fairy's. I think we all know who he was refering to.

Agree Pete, good strong target man with quality and class.

Him and Bellamy are a class pairing and better than half the sides in the premiership but yesterday has highlighted an area that needs to be worked on. I would definately start hall on monday and I think Neil will change it.

I don't understand why the pair of them are so weak?
No centre half in an important game ever gets dragged, I know from playing a decent level, and no way MC was injured at all. At least Neil can see what we can with him.

We need a big strong centre half and a decent ball player for the prem.

Maybe im missing something. Ok Bothroyd scored a superb goal but did he really do that well yesterday? Gorkks wasnt at the races yesterday but i still wasnt particulary worried about Bothroyd.

The 2nd goal was basic defending. You mark the man in the 6 yard box you don't stand 3 yards infront of him. He ended up ball watching and he wasn't defending against the striker. ffs he is bigger than Bellamy so if he was marking him there would of been no chance for bellamy to have scored. He is good on the ball but he isn't strong enough and to be honest his recent performances with an off par poor Gorrks scared the cr ap at of me. I never felt comfortable when the ball went near either of them. Looking forward to seeing Hall on monday.

BigDave I respect you as a poster but you are missing something if you think that defence will cope next season. To many people are going on about all these clean sheets yet we have the best goal keeper in the league and the defensive mistakes are building up, thank god for Kenny. He has to play like a sweeper and comes out really quick he knows both our centre halves turn like small trucks.

Dave, Bothroyd played very well mate. Take his whole game into account, there were times he got the ball at the half way line and literally held it for 30 secs whilst team mates got into play. Perfect for our lone man role.
It gave us a taste of what we would face next season and the lack of pace and weakness worries me.

Im sure Neil recognises this and am not worried as it will be sorted by next season.

When you have played the game, (which I have)I think its easier and you can appreciate a decent strikers performance to be honest. I watched a very very good performance yesterday Cait.

Agreed, I too believe Bothroyd was very good yesterday. Goal apart, his hold up play and bringing others into play was excellent.

The defence was poor all round yesterday Gorkks and Connolly looked like they'd never played together. I think Bothroyd is a decent championship player but a bit of a one season wonder. If he was good enough he would be playing in the prem.
