QPR have moved quickly to keep him at Loftus Road, with Routledge now expected to sign a four-year deal with the club who can secure their place in the top-flight with a win over Cardiff on Saturday.

The former England Under-21 international had two years to run on his contract at St James' Park but was surplus to requirements under Alan Pardew and agreed a pay-off in exchange for terminating his deal.

Meanwhile, Warnock is happy that Cardiff will have to go for it against his side when they meet in the Welsh capital.

Rangers endured a frustrating night on Monday as Derby ground out a 0‑0 draw at Loftus Road.
But with Cardiff second in the table, just a point ahead of Norwich and three ahead of Reading, the hosts will have to attack, leaving possible gaps for QPR.

Boss Warnock said: "It's good we're playing a team who will want to have a go at us. If you look at their forward line you know there's no chance they'll put 10 men behind the ball looking for a point."

routs in line for permanent deal

Queens Park Rangers manager Neil Warnock still expects to complete the permanent signing of Wayne Routledge from Newcastle.

Routledge's agent recently suggested the player was set to return to Tyneside when his loan spell finishes at the end of the current campaign.

But Warnock said: "I really don't see any problems, to be honest.

"It's up to us now to dot the Is and cross the Ts. I think he's set his mind on coming here now, and we want him."

Routledge, 26, was loaned to Rangers in January - only a year after leaving Loftus Road to join Newcastle.

His return was with a view to a permanent move should Warnock's side reach the Premier League, and the Championship leaders are now one win away from sealing promotion.

Warnock has been linked with a host of other players ahead of his club's expected return to the top flight.

"There are players being bandied around that I've never even thought about. Let's get there [the Premier League] first," he added.
