sadly one buried in Greenford cemetary, so young, changed attitudes about safety, not everything I agree with, still think there is a case for terracing for home fans only
I must away now, I can no longer tarry
This morning's tempest I have to cross
I must be guided without a stumble
Into the arms I love the most

Your wish may come true
Safe Standing Bill is due for a second reading in Parliament on 17th June 2011.
The FA decided to start caging fans in by putting up fences. If there were no fences then people could have escaped onto the pitch to avoid being crushed. Have they ever taken responsibility for this ?

That was it, wasn't it?
I remember many crowd surges and collapses on terraces -- but all us kids just spilled over the fence at the front, waited for everyone to go back up to where they were, and then got back in, helped by the stewards if needed.
The 80's was a dark, dark time for football and the football fan, and RIP to all who died at Heysel, Hillsborough and Bradford -- all entirely preventable.
RIP
a sad day for football....so many things went wrong that day and i can understand the families to this day demanding another inquiry.
no to blame, "closure".
easy to blame the fans...liverpool the "bigger" club put in smaller end, "pens" padlocked shut, policeman in charge was doing his first footy game..cctv went missing for years...the ground had few tools available, as few walkie talkies ambulances and fire brigade turned away!!!
there was a dramatic tv play about it....then heysels and bradford happened....
and some wondered why i was upset THIS SEASON AT PALACE, THE METAL GATES WERE PADLOCKED AND NO STEWARD NEARBY HAD KEY, (I ASKED...) in 2011 and it still goes on.
I believe the following happened in the aftermath....
All the next club games got postponed out of respect. We were due to play ManU 10 days later at LR on the Tuesday but wanted to postpone the game. The League got arsey and demanded we play the game as scheduled (they seemed to want things back to normal after the Saturday 7 days after tragedy) got to point where League said they'd dock us and ManU 3 pts if we didn't play it. We told them to stuff it and League relented. Game eventually got played a week or so later. Massive gesture by both teams as I believe -3pts would have put us near relegation zone - don't think it massively affected ManU though.
Have I remembered above correctly or have I got it all a bit scrambled over the years???
Can I add just add my sympathies to the families of the 96? I remember turning on the radio to listen to the football results and not quite beliving what I was hearing.
I was only 11 when this happened but remember it well, was watching BBC1 grandstand I think and it went there live. Still to this day don't know the reason why the police are hated and sun newspaper by LFC fans.
I do remember once though in must be 87 away at spurs and the fencing was up and I was only a young lad and it was so tight and I was up against the fence, scared me a little and I never understood why they had them?
RIP 96
