Taarabt to return for QPR
Team news ahead of a full programme of Championship games as Adel Taarabt returns for table-topping Queens Park Rangers’ trip to Barnsley.
Barnsley club skipper Jason Shackell is expected to go straight back into the starting line-up following illness. Shackell missed Saturday's home win over Bristol City and manager Mark Robins must decide whether to recall him or retain Kieran Trippier in his back four. Another defender, Bobby Hassell, remains sidelined with a calf strain and midfielder Hugo Colace is expected to miss out after being forced off at the weekend with a knee injury. Jacob Mellis, on loan from Chelsea, replaced Colace against the Robins and is expected to keep his place alongside Jacob Butterfield. Defender Jay McEveley and midfielder Diego Arismendi are among those pushing for recalls to the starting line-up as the Tykes bid to maintain their push for a top-half finish.
Adel Taarabt is set to return for QPR after the 15-goal skipper missed Saturday's surprise 4-1 defeat at Scunthorpe due to a stomach virus. Striker Heidar Helguson was rested as a precaution at the weekend and is poised to return to the starting line-up along with defender Kaspars Gorkss, who dropped to the bench. Danny Shittu was taken off at half-time at Glanford Park and looks likely to make way for Gorkss, while fellow centre-half Matt Connolly is also pushing to return to the squad. Defender Peter Ramage (cruciate) and striker Jamie Mackie (broken leg) remain long-term absentees.
