The team needs major investment to compete in the PL, and thankfully the people that matter know this.

Only 4 or 5 of the current team are anywhere near good enough. The only way we could keep the current team/squad, was if we had a tried and tested playing style like arsenal, we dont, so end of.
Mass investment does not guarantee safety just look at how much money the Boro and Newcastle squads costs of recent seasons. Villa have spent millions and are struggling. Look at Stoke and Bolton they've gradually spent money but backed their managers and kept the nucleus of their squads for years.

It doesn't gaurantee it sirpie, but not investing does gaurantee failure.

The rich clubs usually do better. Some clubs spend more than they should on the worng players or manager and can fail badly.

Our team needs some players, quite a few. Or we will be fighting relegation all next year.

Luckily none of you are our manager - NW stated we need to strengthen to compete if we go up on TS today. I would rather trust him.

Haven't heard anyone who actually works in football say that it isn't a very big step up. That's why so many teams that go up go down again. Newcastle went down when they should not have and kept a lot of their players - that's why they are doing ok.

Not sure why people are talking about Blackpool like they are wonderful - they will be relegated.

Its a wise coach who will keep the backbone of the team intact. In Warnock he will do just that. It took SAF years neutering the same backbone before he had any success.
It was the same when Venners took us up and the first year we finished 5th and top London club again with little additions.

We tend to overlook what they are there for and that is to defend and defensively both have barely put a foot wrong all season. You'll be surprised how many of the current starting 11 are capable of raising their games at the higher level as well. Rome was not built in a day as they say and it will take a few seasons to assemble a team like the one we had in the early 90's. If we start messing about with the starting 11 by bringing in 5 new players we could end up lacking cohesion which may impact on team moral. The spirit players like Hill, Kenny & Derry bring is what will keep us up and having Warnock in our corner will win us points at times purely based on his presence on the touchline.

Its the squad which may require bigger improvements over the starting 11 in my view.
Orr and Hill have indeed done very well, but the wingers in the championship are nowhere near as good as those in the Premiership. Football is won or lost on the wings, like real madrid's left back or left midfield, Marcelo, utterly destroyed spurs last night. If we have to deal with Lennon and walcott and Bale and Fabio and bro of Man U, we need fantastic fullbacks, guys who can tackle without getting burned or without giving away freekicks outside the box. We need Kenny Sansom!!

I would sooner have defenders who know how to defend than some foreign signing who has pace but no defensive capabilities.

Why do fans always use examples of players from the Top 6 as players we need to stop, why not highlight players from the other 14 teams as this is effectively the the teams we really should be concerned about.

In my opinion, and it is only my opinion, We need a whole new backline, and a striker who can score goals in the Premiership.

Kenny, Orr, Gorkss, Connolly, Hill, Taarabt, Faurlin, Mackie, Routledge, Derry, Smith, Helguson all deserve a chance to prove themselves in the Prem, they have earnt that right.

We need to purge the squad of all but those above, and Cerny, Buzsaky, and possibly Vaagen Moen, Ephraim, Hall & Rambo.

A couple of youngsters leaving the 'Big 4" Prem clubs, a La Liga/Serie A veteran via Flavs links and maybe a couple from relegated Prem sides and we have our squad.

Personally i think 17th would be a fantastic result next season but if we come down stronger than we went up then that stands us in good stead to have a more prolonged crack at it.

Defending is obviously their primary task but it is by moving up into midfield that full backs help the midfield control a game and thus turn defence into attack. Very few teams flourish in the premiership by playing with a very flat back four.

I actually think that Ephraim, Buz and and Hewitt will shine next season.

I also think Ephraim could have a good season next year - probably playing on loan for someone like Palace.

We have quite a few players simply not good enough to step up, Ephraim being one of them.

Think its called wishful thinking. A lot of our squad players weren't quite good enough for us in the Championship this season, not sure why they are suddenly going to bloom into Premiership class players overnight.
