  • Where Does Warnock Stand In Terms Of All Time Managers?

I find it really weird as I still sometimes relate Warnock to Sheffield United and have to realise he is our boss

Where would he be in our long line of managers?

    I'd say fourth behind
    Sexton
    Francis (first time around)
    Venables

    ahead though of Holloway.

I'm only using my supporting career and cannot comment on a great like Alec Stock

Not achieved anything yet but IF we are promoted he'd be 7th or 8th on the list and one of the select few to have delivered promotion.

        Sexton
        Jago
        Stock
        Venables
        Francis**
        Mangall
        Holloway

all probably still above him IMO. Not been here long enough.

** second thoughts about Francis - he was innately conservative and also turned out some turgid football - in his first season there were calls for him to be sacked after a 3-1 home defeat to Oldham - what did he achieve that Jim Smith didn't? And Smith took us to only our third major final, in addition to getting 5th spot....if Francis is on the list, Smith has to be too really. Time's been harsh on Smith and favourable to Francis. Past player syndrome?

Almost identical record to Venables, so far.
          It's quite weird.

Venables also came from Palace, p*ssed off their fans... and took over when we were at the bottom end of this league. Brought a couple of Palace players with him.
Then won this league by 10 points, with a tight defence, and a few flair players, like Stainrod. (The Adel of his day)
          The similarities are amazing, really.

Although Warnock has miserably failed to deliver us an FA Cup Final.
          Shame on him.

*What Venners did after we went up is going to be very tough for Warnock to follow. Probably impossible.
The Premier League is a very different animal these days.

It is uncanny. But if we do go up and Warnock fails to deliver 5th place and a well oiled offside machine, we should sack him really.

Who'd be the modern day Mullery?

Don't you think Barcelona will want him then ?

                Sexton
                Jago
                Stock
                Venables
                Mangall
                Holloway
Francis: did a great job first time around, although I felt he should have won something with the group of players he had at his disposal, second time around bad situation all round.
                Howe
                Smith*** 86 equals minus points

I think if Warnock hangs around for a few years he is looking at splitting Jago and Sexton, if he tops this list we are talking winning cups, he has potentially more money to spend than any other manager in our history, I know everything is relative and we have spent a lot over the years but he has the backing to kick ####!

The poor sod who follows Warnock.
                    Like Mullery did with Venables.

I remember the QPR fans singing Venables' name at Highbury when we played Belgrade in the Uefa Cup.
Venables had gone to Barca, and Mullery was manager that night... he never stood a chance, even if he hadn't been a hopeless sap.

He has only been with us a year, Need more time to judge Warno. Having said that, just cant see him emulating the great Alex Stock.

He would have to win something & more than once.

Remember seeing something a year or so ago showing that Dowie was statistically our best manager of all time with wins to games ratio.

Imagine it's quite possible that this has changed now with Warnock in charge
