  • Rail cards - away matches

Having read the other thread about the chap paying £88 for tomorrows train trip to Donny I was wondering do people on here have BR rail cards?

I see a fair amount of away games and just wanted to see if it was worth it? how much they are etc? Do you have to be of a certain person to get one i.e student or OAP? Do they only cover one person or a group?

i got my Donny train for about £30 and scunny about £50
Thank **ck thats all over with !!! need a holiday!!!

Official retailer of Railcards by National Rail. With a Railcard you can save up to 1/3 off rail travel. There is a Railcard for everyone.

Got a forces one which I think gives me the same as young persons.

Best one we had for away games was one of the Family ones, meant three of you travelled as an adult with 1/3 off, and one had to blag being a child. Alright when you see the inspector coming and have time for the lad whose travelling as a child to hide his beers but not so easy to blag when they creep up on you.

I pay £25 a year for a Network RailCard. It gets me a third off travel for all over London, pretty much all over the south and as far up as Northampton. Can only be used on journey's costing over £15 but I make my money back easy. Think upto 4 people can travel using the one card.

Can you link your railcard to your oyster card?

Anyone tried www.crosscountrytrains.co.uk as went up to Doncaster for £11.50 two weeks ago admitedly I bought it 4 days online before the saturday and had to leave on the 0810 service, no big shakes, but if you book last minute its going to be more, but they are worth a check if your planning for say Barnsley or Scunnie....pricing cheaper than nationalrail.co.uk!!

                  Check out http://uk.megabus.com

There is an outbound train from St Pancras for 12 pound that gets you there at 11:10am - the return section leaves too early, but you could probably find a one way ticket back to London via BR - Failing that, I heard there is a travellodge in Donny offering rooms at 19 pound for the night & a return train at 10am Sunday for 12 pound = 43 pound for return journey & room for the night

Got a 'family and friends' railcard via bank account. Cost two of us £38.50 return to Derby earlier this season, but its £125.65 return to Donny. If we have to travel via London the discount is very small and its £32.75 for an adult from Southampton to Shepherds Bush. Any route from the south coast that by-passes London is dirt cheap with the railcard.
22nd February away v Charlton is the 40th Anniversary of my support of QPR and my first game. Away v Chelsea 3-3 23rd Feb 1974. 40 years of pure magic!!

I have the 16-25 railcard and you can use it across Britain. I get mine free fom Natwest but I would still pay for it if I didnt have natwest. its so worth it!! so much money off.

but u hardly go to any away games? is that just to get down to bath?
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

I use it everywhere. Going into London I get a travelcard for a tenner. I use it to get home and to Chelmsford. I use it for Bath and many others.
