  • My thoughts on tonight

    Kenny solid
Orr did ok but was expecting Chimbonda to replace him to add attacking options.
    Hill outstanding MotM ?
    Hall did well
Shittu, execellent at back & probably our biggest threat up front in the 1st 77 mins !
    Derry solid, good game
Faurlin, poor 1st half, better 2nd half
Routledge Poor 1st half, good last 30 mins
Miller struggled, poor 1st touch, ran some blind alleys, no winger but managed to create a couple of good chances through persistance and stubborness !
Helguson worked tirelessly, our best front man but thought he'd miss goal with his downward header like he did earlier in season, cant rememver v who.
Taarabt, average game by his standards, very little showboating, tried some neat passes, occasionally threatened and even won a header at the end. Consistantly great corners for a change, always beating 1st man. Fitz (1st half) and Big Danny ( both halves) were great target men to aim for.

Buzz, brought on to unlock Ipswich, looked really fit and lively. Brought Routs into the game more. Really glad he's back. Obvious Plan B
Conners, not on long, but did ok

Overall, not the best performance, 1st half gave the ball away cheap too often, Ipswich looked most likely to pinch it. 2nd half, better but until we scored, we only really had a couple of goalmouth scrambles to threaten.
After we scored, much better, we relaxed and controlled the game more. 2nd goal was icing and probably a slight injustice to Ipswich who with Bullard pulling the strings so well, were tough to play against. They seemed to settle for a point in 2nd half but you can see why they've done well of late.

Shame about both Taffs, but overall a good night for us, table wise.

2really tough games coming up now, I'd buy 4 points right now.

Yep, agree with all of that. I thought both Hill and Shittu were absolutely superb tonight.

Agree on a lot of that,
but I thought Routledge did well all night, especially 2nd half.
And I really don't recall Kenny having anything serious to do all game, until stoppage time.

They approached well, and knocked it about, but never really opened us up. I remember us having half a dozen good chances to score in the 2nd half, before we broke through.

I reaaly think there was only one team in it, all through the 2nd half.
Last 15 mins, we destroyed them.

I actually don't like Tarabat's corners. They just get floated in. For anyone who has played football will know what I mean. Very hard to get power on the ball. Would prefer if the ball was whipped in at pace.

He does whip a fair few of them. I think (hope) all of us on the board know what you mean though.

            Goddard, fair enough.
Kenny, I kept it brief (unusual for me) as I didn't recall him bei g called upon too often. But did nothing wrong.
Routledge, like most of the team 1st half was average IMO, I not a big fan of him playing down the middle. Happy for him to switch wings but feel he's more threatening out wide. Agree though 2nd half much better and once Buzz came on last 20 mins we dominated.
I've not seen the official stats for chances on & off target etc. But right now I'm struggling to recall much from them other than Bullard pulling strings, Wickham being a threat and much taller than I recall (one run threatened to emulate his goal a week or so ago, when no one tackled him !) and Delaney conning the Ref. Scotland was poor I thought.

Hammersmith, I'm all for variety on corners, but too many of Taarabt don't beat the 1st man. Last night Shittu was a constant threat at the back post and even Hall got on the end of 2 in the 1st half.
I don't recall a bad corner last night, which is the opposite of what I normally say (except Hill's 2nd v Pompey)

Anyway 3 points closer and back to winning ways, long may that continue.

Routledge played better after Buz came on when he stayed out wide, before that him and Tarbs kept drifitng into the same position!

76, pretty much how I saw it.

Ipswich seemed too have improved markedly since Jewell took over, very relieved too have secured the 3 points.
