  • Destroying promotion from within?

I have read a number of threads/responses/comments from many people recently and it disturbs me a little that there is an under current of negativity towards NW and the team if we don't win.

We can all moan that maybe we have not gone out and purchased that '20 goal' a season striker etc but there are many teams all over the country and even in Premiership who moan that their team lacks strength in certain positions despite maybe there being funds available etc. You don't have to travel far to North London where many Arsenal fans have been moaning for ages about a decent keeper, centre back and striker yet their season is still going strong and so is ours!

It's not easy to wave a magic wand and sign the player you most want especially given inflated price tags, wages, agents etc etc. Sometimes, manager's make mistakes, we all do. However, over all you cannot argue that NW is probably the best manager we have had at the club for quite a while.

Around this time of year is when nerves start to attack players and fans alike and from here on in it does not get any easier. The teams at the top get the jitters and the teams at the bottom suddenly realise the mess they are in and time is running out and start to pull out results through total desperation.

Every team around us is dropping points. Forest being a fine example in the last week of losing to Scunthorpe but then beating Cardiff. QPR however have only lost 1 league match in the last two months which is pretty decent in my book.

If we are nervous from the stands and start to moan and groan at a misplaced pass or a poor shot then how do you think this tranfers to the players on the pitch?

I don't want to hear people counter argue and say "well they get paid £20k a week and should learn to deal with it" etc etc. Players are human no matter what they get paid and they react just like you and me.

Everyone in this league is scrapping for points right now teams like Preston and Ipswich have had new managers recently which often brings a fresh breeze into the club and can sometimes transform players form. We have all seen the affect that NW has had on Tarrabt. He must be the hardest player to manage in the country by far!

Opinions about the team's performance on any given games and opinions on certain players within the team on this forum is part of society today. We live in a cyber world where public access to the world has never been easier. I am sure that every club has a forum based website where the 'banter' that exists on ours is similar to others.

The most important part of this thread is that WE all do everything to keep the atmosphere and the support as positive as possible on match days and really get behind the team to help push us over the line to the promised land.
Loftus Road especially is a tight compact stadium and i can assure you that the players can easily here everything. Give them all your support and help raise the roof and i am sure it will pay dividends on the pitch.

Now is not the time to critisize. The squad is what it is. NW knows the players better than anyone. He also knows plenty of what we don't know. Let him manage and let the team play without fear but to want to play for the fans who give them their support. It's a two way thing you know!

Many fans up and down the country will realize that between now and May is going to be a bumpy ride. We can help to make it a smoother ride!!!!

    Come on you R's!!!!

Actually i did and left the ground as frustrated as most R's fans but in the car on the way back we spoke about the season at length which prompted me to write this thread. My point was that viewing games from now until May is not going to be easy. We have to do what we can do not reveal our nerves/frustrations and give the team our support no matter who is playing!

I apologise. Unfortunately we reveal our nerves and frustration because it's really hard work not to. We, as fans, were pretty complacent today and celebrating before a ball was kicked in anger. When we scored, it seemed as though we expected to win with the sort of arrogance I'd normally associate with Man U fans. Anyway, onwards and upwards, and my apologies again.

no offence taken AF60. The one thing we spoke about down the motorway tonight was that our form has been a bit up and down in the last 14 league matches with 3 defeats during that period. If we produced a carbon copy of that form for the remaining 14 fixtures then we should finish on about 83/84 points which most assume should be enough to get us promoted. Therefore we need to take stock of the situation and settle down, be positive and BRING IT ON!!!!!!

Great come back. Really constructive, informative, specific and supportive.

So he didn't see the performance against Preston (Well done to you for taking a chance we wouldn't get 3 points). His post is encouraging a broader perspective than 'we drew with Preston'.

If that is the perspective then we might be relegated along side them, since if we couldn't beat them we must be the same or worse.( I'm starting to worry for Man U after today's result).

If you put today's result into the context of 31 games and see that we are 5 points ahead still and have plenty of opportunities to get the points needed for automatic promotion then we are in the best shape of any team in the league.

Shitting your pants after a poor result points to a weakness of character, a lack of courage to deal with set backs and a willingness to never be in a position to be shot down.

Sounds like a lack of belief and an over attachment to football results effecting the joy of life. Grow some, look at our next 14 games and learn that consistent excellence is a struggle and try and understand that the league is a ' marathon not a sprint" ( from Cliche Man)

I agree with Mr Hoops that now is not the time to criticise. Not going to pretend that I am 100% happy with some of our results, team selections and tactics etc but just feel that airing them when we are so close to promotion would be counter-productive to the cause. Best for us to get behind the team and support them in the knowledge we have a good, proven manager at this level. IMO.

                  well said sir...
14 games left, 5 plus one (let's call it 6) points ahead, I am just counting them off (and hoping Forest loses their game in hand) and putting my faith in the defence and NW.

Another post on another board, but probably relvant when the question of divisions between fans and scapegoats was raised.

Anyway, - Like a Cat diving into a pool of Pigeons.

Yep, lots of division between fans this season. And many reasons -

Off field what the Club did to loyal fans last few years. Many still bitter and rightly so.

Some fans coming back after years because we're doing well and thinking we should be better when frankly they've not had to experience the dross of recent season and relegation battles. (Only last season until NW's arrival)

                    The Internet.

Fifa2010 and every football Manager game invented which makes the purchaser/player believe he knows more about the game than a seasoned Manager who has lived and breathed the game for 40+ years with a fair amount of success, especially around getting teams promoted.

Onfield, we all have different opinions, about who's good & who's not, no matter whether you go to every game (I wish I could) or only home games or have work commitments or live abroad, or just skint, all are still relevant. But spending time (hours travelling) and hard earned money invariably means they have contributed more and perhaps deserve the rewards more ? Certainly means they often speak with more authority having witnessed the most recent debacle/hard luck story/glorious victory, whichever.
FAIR PLAY, I TAKE MY HAT OFF TO THEM.

Rangers ALWAYS doing things the hard way, we're all just waiting for this remarkable season to blow up in our faces. Calm before the Storm. bound to lose the next game and that will be the beginning of the end.

However, I disagree hugely about the authors feelings regards Adel. But I'm no longer gonna waste time detailing why. If people can't see it now, they never will.

Regards Hulse getting more stick than Clarke. Probably, mainly due to him getting more opportunity to flatter/decieve or frustrate.
Seems all R's fans love a scapegoat. How many this season alone ?
Legs, Adel, Hulse, Helguson, Vine, Clarke, Dave, Orr, Hill, Borrowdale, Hall, Gorkks, Connolly, Faurlin, Ephraim and even Kenny at the start of the season.
I've head ALL of the above get slated at games or read really critical posts on messageboards, so far this season.
Derry & Mackie only escaped because no one expected anything from them to start with and have thus excelled !

Thank God, Ramage, Rowlands & Mahon have been injured, or they'd have got it also !

And that in a season when we find ourselves 5 points clear at the top with less than 1/3 of the season to go !?

Extraordinary. Football fans are notoriously argumentative, but us R's are particularly fickle and I include myself in that.

Some posts on here (not just this thread) remind me of Europe just before ww2 started, although everyone new what was going to happen, people talked positive hoping it wouldn't and if you did not agree with them, you were treated as the enemy. If QPR FC could not beat a crap Hull away, 10 men forest and bottom of the league Preston, how do you think we will beat Ipswich and boro. You can all throw as much pixi dust as you want in the "it will be alright on the night" world you live in, but in the real world, the system nw wants to play ain't working and he won't change it.

Good post I also think you raised a good point about the new manager syndrome, it will be interesting to see how many more points Preston will pick up this season.

I have read it and I am not a doom merchant. Simple question How will that post make the players play better ?
