  • Taarabt v Manset

    Taken this evening from NewsNowQPR.

    Quote:

Mathieu Manset is hoping he can make as big an impact at Reading as Queens Park Rangers talisman Adel Taarabt has at Loftus Road.

Manset is inline for his full Royals debut tonight when Championship leaders Rangers visit Madejski Stadium (Live on Sky Sports 7.45pm kick-off) with star-striker Shane Long a major doubt with a hip injury.

If he were to start, the 21-year-old powerhouse nicknamed ‘The Beast’, isn’t afraid of Taarabt’s qualities, having played against him before in France with Le Havre.

He said: “I know about Taarabt because he is from France and I used to play against him when I was younger.

“He was very good then and for me he is the best player in the Championship. I want to score as many goals as him in this league.

“For me it’s just another football game tonight and it’s the same as normal. Just because it is against first in the league doesn’t change anything. For me it’s the same as any other game.

“Everyone has forgotten the Cardiff game (where Royals took a 90th minute lead through Manset, but drew 2-2). We are focussed on the QPR game, which we need to win.”

Goal-machine Taarabt will need to be closely watched by Reading after scoring five times in his last eight games to bring him up to a total of 14 this season for Neil Warnock’s side.

Manset is level pegging with the Moroccan playmaker, but he has set himself the impressive benchmark of double figures in the Championship in the last 18 games of the season after scoring for fun at Hereford United.

“Now I have got my first I do feel more relaxed, but I want more,” said the ambitious striker.

“I was speechless when I scored against Cardiff. Scoring my first goal in the Championship, it was unbelievable. I couldn’t sleep after because of the adrenalin and excitement.

“If I play tonight I want to score one or two. I want to score every game now. I would like to score 10 Championship goals this season.”

And if Manset’s dreams come true he will celebrate by returning home to see his family on the weekend.

He added: “If we win on Friday I will go back to France to see my family in Paris.

"All my friends are excited for me as they know Reading are a big club and everyone has also been asking about Jimmy Kebe.

“I’m very excited and this is a big thing for me to be here at Reading. I’m so happy.

"I live in the town centre and I like Reading. Matt Mills has been taking care of me as well as Jimmy.”

hahaha another balotteli dreamer, how to compare this guy with Tarbs:

Manset was released by Le Havre in the summer of 2009 and was recommended to Football League Two side Hereford United by Guy Ipoua. After a successful trial, he joined Hereford on a free transfer. His debut in English football came in the second round of the Football League Trophy where he featured as a substitute in the last 20 minutes of the game at home to Aldershot Town and scored a late goal to put the Bulls into a 2–1 lead. However, Aldershot quickly equalised and sent the game to a penalty shoot out, which Hereford later won 4–3. Manset scored what turned out to be the decisive penalty with a powerful strike into the top left corner of the goal.[4]

In the first round of the FA Cup, in the 2–0 win against Sutton United, Manset put Hereford in the lead after six minutes. However, after half an hour of play he was red carded for violent conduct after he reacted badly to a challenge by Alan Paulton.[5] His first goal in League Two came in the 3–1 away win at Northampton Town on 1 December 2009.[6]
      [edit] Reading

Manset signed for Championship team Reading for an undisclosed fee on a two-and-a-half-year contract on 21 January 2011.[7] Manset made his debut for Reading FC on 22 January 2011, coming on as a substitue just 21 hours after signing for the club.[8] On 1 February 2011, he scored his first goal for "The Royals" after again coming on as a substitute, scoring what had looked to be an injury time winner in the 2-2 away draw at Cardiff City.[9]
      [edit] Personal life

Manset’s family have a long tradition of goat farming in their home village near Metz. On signing for Hereford United Manset purchased some goats and a paddock in which to keep them to continue the family tradition in his spare time.
