  • Does it reaaly matter who scores

All this talk about every striker playing drying up makes me think it is about the system not about the players. Miller/Hulse/Helguson now have 7 between them which could be looked as awful but it is all going for the midfield which is really going great. Defence has not scored that many

Should we worry about who scores we are in 3rd place scoring 1,66 goals per match. Top is Watford with 1,96 and Leeds with 1,86.

Last night we had almost the same team as the one going great in the beginning. Only Two changes is Routledge for Mackie and Miller for Helguson.

We are now unbeaten in 5 games - if we could stay unbeaten next 2 games - we are in for a good run of easier games for the next 11 games.

I honestly believe that if we win our next two games we'll win the division. Victory at Reading would open up a lead of eight points and put the chasing pack under pressure; a win against Forest on the 13th will provide the boost we need to get the job done.

As for your main point, I'm sure that I'm not alone in not caring who scores the goals; as long as we win, that's all that matters.

Agree completely. I commented earlier in the season just how few goals Birmingham scored in 08/09 but were still promoted. After 29 matches they had 55 points, scored 36 and conceded 26 and finished 2nd. We've got a point more, 12 goals more and conceded 8 goals fewer. Taraabt has now equalled their highest goal scorer from that season (Phillips 14 goals). Mackie equalled their 2nd highest scorer (Jerome with 9), Helguson has 6 and Smith 4 which is the same as O'Connor and McFadden with 17 matches to go so I can't really see the problem either.

Agreed, it don't really matter who scores in the great scheme of things.

But, it would take some of the pressure off Adel if HH, Hulse & Miller chip in with their fair share.
It would also go some way to reversing peoples thinking that we're a one man team and if Taarbs don't score or assist, 0-0 is the most likely outcome !

Finally, of course (tongue firmly in cheek here), if our strikers were more prolific, Adel might be persuaded to pass to them more often.....

But as I said at the start, winning is most important, followed by not losing !

course it doesnt matter who scores, but it would be bloody lovely to have our four strikers get one every couple of months.
3 or 4 goals or whatever it is from open play from 4 centre forwards all season is a joke.
if you are happy with having non scoring forwards then be happy, some of us are greedy and would like a tiny bit more. (for instance 3 or 4 goals each not including penalties from each of our 3 regualr forwards)
that would be the ticket to the promised land imo.

The system we play just means we get most shots and goals from attacking midfield rather than the lone striker. So change in tactics is needed to get more goals from the striker. The system is working now so why change it just to get more goals from the striker.

Just take a look at this - total shots for the players then goals scored

              Helguson/Hulse/Miller combined 69 shots bringing 7 goals (1 goal per 10 shots)
              Mackie/Smith/Ephraim combined 68 shots bringing 15 goals (2 goals per 10 shots)
Taarabt on his own with 108 shots bringing 14 goals (1,3 goal per 10 shots) - probably no player in the championship has more shots.

I think this proves how our system works - look out for Routledge scoring more goals than he is used to until the end of the season (actually Warnock said this in an interview)

love the stats mate, and i agree with you that we dont play the striker game. BUT helguson missing that header last week was laughable and we didnt change anything for him to do that, and hulse has missed some proper 'my nan would of scored thats' as well.
so sorry, ill have to 'case dismiss' that argument cos a goal proper poacher would score in any formation or tactics, and 0-0's would be 1-0's.

It would be nice to have a centre forward who scored 20 goals a season but they are few and far between and would cost a fortune.

I think the system we play with one up front will reduce the amount of goals that one single player scores but as long as we keep winning and other members of the team keep scoring then I'm happy.

I honestly cannont remember being this excited and passionate about us going up for a long long time. Roll on tomororow night and 3 points at Reading.

A poacher is what we need, I think Kevin Phillips would of been a great addition to our squad. Certainly know's where the back of the net is.

he looked great and so lively again last night for brum.
would of been so brilliant to of got him or someone half as good as him, but we know we dont do things like that, so no-ones shocked that we are going to do it the hard way and right down to the last day are they?

Cant see us beating Forest OR Reading, peoples opinion might just well change then.Even NW appears to disagree with the "we dont need a finisher"gang,he said after the Pompy game that we just lacked a finisher to win those 0-0 away games.Listen at the very end....http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/foot...pr/9384519.stm

Although nobody rememers - Taarabt has missed more sitters than any of the target man.

Some think that having Phillips instead of HH/Hul/Mil would make us a more dangerous team - I doubt that becaus something this 3 bring in the system would disapear

I too agree completely...... I've no doubt that we'll secure an automatic promotion, and most probably as Champions...

We first of all need to be caught up, then overhauled points wise, given our GD. Also, the doom mongers amounst us, really should only think about us in 3rd place.. and the points required to keep a 1st or 2nd berth.
