  • A last reminder ... Re: Neil Roberts.

First of all a big thank you to Pete and all the WATRB's moderators for putting my last post about Neil on here as a sticky. Tomorrow's game ( Coventry) is a massive one in terms of Rangers stamping their authority on the league and keeping the lead at the top to maximum points.
In respect to QPR, it's also a big day for our friend Neil Roberts, who will be coming to the game - I had a brief chat with Neil last night. Neil was in good spirits when we talked, he's really looking forward to the trip to Loftus Road tomorrow morning. I'm sure you all know that Neil has bad day's, and not so bad day's - The cold really affects him, and as far as I know, the only food that he's been able to digest for sometime now is ... tomato soup.

It's been the best part of 17 years since Neil worked at QPR running the Official QPR Supporters Club. I can only have a guess, many of our younger supporters who are possibly under the age of 25, just won't have a clue who Neil is from Adam, and understandably so!
I can tell you that Neil Roberts is a good honest man, he went out of his way for many Rangers fans during his time at the club, especially when it came to the children .... The Junior R's! Many Mums and Dads will remember Neil getting their boy/girl to be a QPR matchday mascot, and the kindness he showed to the kids who were just not quite sure, about walking onto the big matchday stage.

Neil has many friends/mates at QPR, just like we all do. He was a regular face at away games, just as he was at home games ... many years may I say, before he was employed by QPRFC - I remember at the time, Neil telling a group of us in 'The Princess Victoria' on the Uxbridge Road, how excited he was at getting his dream job at QPR, the club he loved and worshiped with a passion. I was pleased for him, but if I'm honest, I really didn't appricate how much the job meant to him, and it did mean the world to him. And because of the OSC job, Neil's popularity really came to the front with the QPR fanbase.

This is a tough one ... Neil asked me a question not so long ago, actually if I'm correct, it was the night of his 53rd Birthday, just before this Christmas. Neil was delighted that all the family had got together for him. You see, Neil's wife Becky and the family had thrown a surprise party for him at their home. Not only that, his Dad Jack had flown over from Spain, I think it had been some-while since they'd seen each other, which you can imagine delighted Neil no end.
Anyway, Neil walked out, he need a bit of fresh-air, and decided to phone me and tell me about the party. It was then that he asked me for my opinion on the new QPR club crest. I told him that it was growing on me, but I still had reservations about it. Neil said to me .... I quite like it, but when I go I'm going to buried in the old shirt with the old Rangers badge on it, because that's what we're about Joe! That comment left me gobsmacked.

So this post is a small reminder, a reminder for you to come down to The Springbok after tomorrows game, at about 3.45pm, for Neil Roberts belated birthday jolly-up! I'm not sure if it's to be held downstairs in The LSA, or the normal part of The Bok .... Just turn up for Neil it won't take to much to work out where the gathering is. Have a chat about the old QPR days, and raise a glass to Neil's birthday. You have no idea how much this will mean to Neil, and his family.

WE ARE QPR ... Neil Roberts is a 'Brother in Hoops' and a friend of all QPR supporters.
Thank you to all of you for reading this. And a final big thank you in advance from me to Dave Robinson, and Jenny Elliot and all the Queens Park Rangers FC staff, for looking after Neil and his family, by making tomorrow's home match against Coventry City a very special day for our friend - Neil Roberts is a true Rangers fan, heart body and soul.

Joe Hylton .... Come on you R'sssss!!!
