Leeds, QPR and Ipswich all keen to sign Blackburn reject FOR NOTHINGReports are coming in that the (now free-agent) Pascal Chimbonda is being chased by some Championship clubs that are trying to get promoted to the Premiership. Chimbonda was released by the new Blackburn boss Steve Kean today and is now free to leave Ewood Park without any ties and is willing to negotiate with any team that will play him in the first team.

This has alerted Leeds owner Ken Bates, who is always on the lookout for a bargain, and his coach Simon Grayson agrees that Chimbonda would be an excellent addition to his promotion-chasing Elland Road ensemble, but he will face competition from both QPR and Ipswich.

Ipswich boss Paul Jewell made enquiries about Chimbonda before he became a free agent, and it was originally rumoured that he had bid £500,000. He will be even more keen now that he is available for free, but surely the favourites to sign the ex-Tottenham star must be Championship leaders QPR.

Chimbonda’s agent Willie McKay has told Sky that his client is on his way to Loftus Road for talks immediately after finishing up with Blackburn.

“Pascal is going down for talks with QPR after cancelling his contract at Blackburn,” he said. “He is keen to get his career back on track after a tough last six months at Blackburn.

“He feels QPR are an ambitious club that matches his own ambitions and he wants to help them win promotion to the Premier League.”

But if the talks at Loftus Road don’t come out to Chimbonda’s liking, you can be sure that the Leeds boss Simon Grayson will be waiting in the wings with a better offer, and he could still end up at Elland Road after all…..
