  • Austin, what have we got to lose ?

Of the lower league players we have been strongly linked with recently, how many have increased in value and how many have dropped in value ?

Cox (Swindon to WBA) - Same value ?
Beckford (Leeds to Everton) - value increased ?
Evans (Man City to Sheff Utd) - value decreased ?
Eastwood (Southend to Coventry) - Same value ?
Hooper (Scunthorpe to Celtic) -value increased ?
Lita (Reading to Middlesboro) - value same ?
King (Prison to Coventry) -value increased.....

Have I missed anyone, last couple of years ?

Bottom line suggests Austin (or Le Fondre) are worth a punt of £1.5m as the likelyhood is we would not lose out and likely to sell on for more.
And if we made it to the Prem in that time.....WHO CARES ?

Agree, as a future investment, more chance of increasing in value than lose.

    But...
He couldn't play for us while Adel is still here.
Because he is inexperienced, would need a strike partner, unable to fulfil the lone striker role atm. If Adel goes in a few years to Real, and we revert to 4-4-2, could be perfect

In his interview Mick Jones indicated it was just his agent banding his name about.

If we wanted him, being top of the championship we'd probably get him

Do you mean if we wanted to PAY MONEY for him we'd get him. That's the bit we won't do.

Or...If we were allowed to buy him, we probably would?

I'm not complaining too much as I'm all for loans. Well, I'm all for Routledge on loan, but I think we're missing out if we don't sign this lad.

          Just my opinion.

            ??

Don't know what you expect 2-3 million bids going in? We didn't do that with Hulse, Clarke, Mackie and Smith hardly going to do with it Austin

As a supporter, that second sentance is very frustrating.

Cox didn't struggle too much against us Dec 2009 when on as a Sub.
Besides, who said £2-3M for Austin ? £1m was last official bid I saw. £1.5m would get him and possibly less with add ons.
You suggest his availability is only down to his Agent touting him yet I see
                  he's officially requested a transfer ?

Pete, Not sure why you mention -
                  Clarke - never gonna be a 2-3m player or 200-300k !
Hulse - 500-750k ? But injured for 10 weeks !?! Lets repeat the same mistake with Miller.....
Mackie and Smith - maybe but jury still out in my mind, I doubt either will be worth £2-3m in future.

Anyway, only Gerry got my point. Speculate to Accumulate.
The ones we've recently missed out on (none of which went for £3m and only
Evans went for £2m, I think) are mostly worth the same or more.

And if we achieve Promotion, both HE and US will be worth considerably more.

                  But hey ho.

Thats the frustrating thing. We've spent nowt really, thankfully Warnock really gets the best out of players. We will never stay in the prem when we get there cos the board wont spend any money!

We top by 3 with game in hand.. I would have bitten your hand off at the start of the season.

Last 20 games are no different from the first 26, if you approach things professionally. We can get over excited, but with people like Jones/Warnock at the helm, they are level headed to know how to get results.

I think most would have been pleased if we went for Austin and got Shi.ttu back

All this talk of all these players we are looking at but dont seem to have signed one yet

Pete look at the last 6 games form table. Thats why we need to strengthen. Lost a couple of players and running out of steam...

So when you said Miller scored 7 in 21 matches a few seasons ago was very good but when Cox scores 9 in 27 matches last season (again 1 in 3) he struggled?

So what is it? Cox struggled or Millers record not that good or could it be that Cox's record at this level last season shows he didn't struggle.

And for the record Cox scored 7 more for WBA last season than Miller did.
