Im actually with pete on this one. The reason we dont need another striker is because our striker plays as a target man, we have 1 of them in a starting XI, there job is to win flick ons, hold the ball up from paddy kennys kicks and the defenders chips into him.
we bascially play 4-2-4 where taarabt has a license to roam and float about the pitch, from corners and defensive free kicks he is the furthest man forward, neil warnock sees him as a floating forward and hes scored 12 goals, mackie and smith ( or whoever play on the wings ) are seen as wing forwards, there job is to push as high up the pitch as possible to pin back the fullbacks and challenge everything, there job is also to get into the box and chip in with goals.

What im trying to say is warnock doesnt work in the way he needs a 20 goal a season striker because the way he sets hes teams up are so the striker sets up and makes it easier for the other forward players to score the majority of goals..

so if we were to sign austin or phillips then who would you drop?

Ahhh but if you want an effective plan B, you need a certain type of striker to play with the strerio type ones we have now.

This to me only has limited success Spag.
HH and Hulse are winning a good percentage of balls up to them, but the flick-ons are finding the invisible man! It was working early season with Mackie and he got a hatful, but he's out now. In the last couple of months, the wide forwards, Smith, Mackie, have been very wide and not linking up. Even Tarbs often picks up the ball from wide positions. My hope is that Petter Moen links up better than Smith, but we'll see if he gets his chance. Don't recall WR getting too central either, potentially another wide forward mostly doing the crossing, and not getting on the end of the flicks.

I think having 2 defensive midfielders is a luxury, especially at home, its no wonder we've conceded so few goals. Maybe picking either Derry or Faurlin as sweeper, and not both, might work, then sticking on a poacher up front. Win most games then 6-4 and 5-3 !!

Blimey, I don't recognise this as Rangers game plan / formation or whatever. All sort of makes it sound as igf you know what you are on about but quickly unravels. Whose doing all this "seeing as wing forwards (???)" or "seeing as a roamer"?? It isn't the way Warnock sets the team our that is for sure if that is what you try to imply. And it would seem our one striker (in your system) seems to be not a striker at all in the traditional sense (i.e. strikes at goal) but rather is a facilitator of "flick ons, and recipient of goal kicks" Now we know and you've made it clear I can see we don't need another of those.

To answer your specific question if we had a decent striker I am thinking Hulse /Helguson/Clarke and Aggy might struggle for a place. Mad I know but thems just my views.

While I am at it, old roamer Tarrabt has seen half of his goals come from the spot. One was a gift from Mackie at Palace on the line. Let's not get carried away with his tally. When he scores he does spectacular but is doing a pretty average job on finding the net thing in terms of numbers. But seems we don't need a striker.
