  • Where will the poacher go?

Over the last few weeks all I've constantly seen is 'we need a goalscorer to play next to the target man' but where will they go? At the moment we play:

    kenny
    Orr--Connolly--Gorkks -- Hill
    Derry -- Faurlin
    Smith Taarabt PVM
    Hulse

So who do we drop? We cant drop taarabt because he is our best player by a mile, do we drop PVM and stick taarabt out on the left? Leaving our left side very vulnerable. I dont think we can accomodate 2 strikers AND Taarabt. So if we are looking at a second option to come from the bench thats fine, but dont moan when we dont get roberts/ebanks blake/or any quality striker. Why would they go from sitting on the bench in the premiership to sit on the bench in the championship? Its not going to happen IMO. We need to lower our expectations and be realistic about who this striker will be.

You're absolutely right... it's a right flipping conundrum! Watford seem to have knack of getting their attcking midfielderrs forward directly, quickly and dangerously. If Smith or PVM can't fulfill the "supplementary striker" role then I s'pose one of them would have to make way for a bona fide poacher. But, where does supply then come from..... big hoofs up to Hulse???? As I say, it's a conundrum and I'm stumped!

We seem to favour 2 'sweepers' in front of the back 4, which is probably why we have conceded so few.
This is a bit of a luxury, but prevents too many through balls exposing the lack of pace with our centre backs. Essensially we play 5 in midfield.
If we were to go back to 4 in midfield, in a diamond formation, we could accomodate a 'poacher' to pick up the flicks ons by Hulse.
So we would probably score more, but concede more too.
Who to drop, Faulin or Derry?

Would have to play a diamond to play two strikers and Taraabt. Would need two attacking full backs due to a lack of width.

Del think your post assumes that we still keep a big lump up front. I'd hope we cd bring in a striker who cd play the loan striker role but just be more deadly on the ground as well as holding a few balls up in the air. Roberts cd do this, also Nugent, Kitson and Cox for instance. Then I wd keep Hulse and Helguson for the bench with 20/30 minutes to go when the silky football isn't working and its time to batter the opposition into submission.

graham or austin aint poachers, they are goalscorers. they dont need to play off nayone. straight swap for hulse and keep the same team, and he could have NO complaints either.

Based on our current squad as we would need three defence minded players to allow Adel the creative freedom I would play this for definite at home anyway.

                  -------------------------------Derry

                  --------------Vaagen Moen/ Buzz-------Faurlin

                  --------------------------------Adel------------

                  --------------------Helguson--------New Striker/ Smith for now

warnock wont ever play two strikers i dont think. whoever comes in will be to replace hulse or hh and push them both out.
exact same formation but with someone up front who can score once every blue moon.

I agree, he won't change the system just the personnel. Just suggesting how they could be accommodated. Even when we have two strikers on the pitch generally they just play slightly further forward than the player they replaced.

Why not try smith up front instead of Hulse, if routs comes in? Moen and routs on the wings and taarabt in just behind smith.

Why does Smith need to drop to bench? Routledge straight replacement for Mackie. Decent loan striker and Routs, Tabs and Smith tear this division apart. Fact.
