That is complete and utter ****. There's no way that Abramovich would lead.
    Here's a few reasons:

    1) A losing business (ie Chelsea) helps Abramovich pay off the UK taxman- and he's already paying pretty much ****-all thanks to being a non-dom
    2) Abramovich and Zenith St Petersburg? Why bother with a tiny club?
    3) Abramovich's major reason for not going mad on spending (I suspect) is the fact that he's built a team that's very capable of winning a title (without Ramires there, who's shite) and he doesn't feel like paying the inflated prices (the irony since he helped escalate them in the first place).
    4) I don't know how much Chelsea's actually in debt. It's a private company that doesn't have to declare its losses/gains. Hasn't Abramovich paid off the debt left by the old guard?

If Abramovich does leave, then I'll cry with joy. And then worry about us going the same way.

            Correct. Just gets better.

Must be close with Bernie in that case then?

luckily hes a multi billionaire ..... the cost to Abramovich of bringing F1 to Russia is about the same as an Indian Takeaway to the 'common man'....the cost of the WC about the same as a new fridge-freezer...

as for the OP, Abramovich cannot just walk away. He is majority shareholder of Chelsea, and even in the unlikely event of wanting to takeover Zenit, rules state that you cannot have majority control over 2 clubs due to a massive conflict of interest, and so Abramovich would have to sell his shares in Chelsea.

IF Abramovich sold up his shares, theres pretty much an endless stream of uber-rich investors looking to get into English football. Opportunities dont come much better than the current Champions of England, and FA Cup holders, and there would be a scrum to buy up his shares.

As for their 'debt', Abramovich wiped out circa £500m of debt recently, instead turning it into equity.

A comedy case of bias overriding basic business knowledge here

He is selling his shares by all accounts.

Any owner can walk away (sell up) whenever he or she wishes.

Point being their is not many RA's in the world ready to wipe out massive debts so it can only go one way for Chelsea surely that can only be a good thing?

The owner of a business cannot just walk away, they either need to sell their shares or close the business.

Chelsea do not technically have the massive debt levels of other big clubs as Abramovich wiped it off the books. There are only a few people with the personal fortunes of Abramovich, however there are plenty of incredibly wealthy investors out there and for anyone looking to get into the English game, Chelsea are a very attractive proposition...

They'll be fine. None of Citys owners have the level of wealth that Abramovich does but they've put together a consortium of incredibly wealthy investors.

Think you need to read my post again Jamie.

I clearly wrote they can sell up. Thanx.

Personally I don't think they will get another owner like RA who has been very good to them. I think Chelsea fans know that also.

Sheikh Mansour alone is worth 6 times that of Abramovitch!

Can't see Roman walking completely - he has too many irons in the fire there, not least the ongoing Earl's Court property options. No doubt he will scale back his day to day involvement as he moves to direct the World Cup administrative functions and the F1 bits. He certainly won't invest anything more in the playing function or infrastructure of the Club. Kenyon said the aim was to be self sufficient in 5 years. They're now in the 7th year of that cycle and still operating at a huge loss. They'll struggle to get a CL place this year IMO and if they don't make it, that's when the walls will really start tumbling down.

NB - Ric - Zenit are already bankrolled by Gazprom (like Schalke) they don't have any need for Roman. If he gets involved in a Russian domestic club, its more likely to be Spartak.

Nodge you could be right about Spartak, doesn't RA have something to do with them already through Sibneft? I was definitely told ZSP though by Aaron so who knows.

Can you see someone coming in & being as generous as he has been? Or will it be a fall from grace for the mighty blues?
