To be honest I dont think The Guardian quotes were necessarily all that bad. The trouble with the written word, unlike audio, is you cant hear the vocal inflexions, and meanings can sometimes get a bit misconstrued.

      IMO

Budgets are set every year, think we've done well with signings, the only fly in the ointment being Clarke.

Someone like Holloway has pulled rabbits out of the hat successfully, in a way Warnock is victim of his own success. I can understand the board's reluctance to spend, spend, we are 5 points clear with a squad assembled on 10 players that cost around 2 million at most.

goes without saying we need to replace the likes of Walker and Mackie, but they hardly cost the earth in the first place and I am sure players will come that want to be at this football club.

In ideal world the millionaire Bernie Ecclestone should say here is 3 million, but we have to stick to the plans and not overstretch on budgets, even getting a top top signing isn't going to guarantee promotion, sticking together and being a strong team on and off the field, will.

Dont think thats right pete, 2 million? Bet Hulse and smith combined cost more than that. Not forgetting the fees for mackie, Taarabt, Kenny and Orr.

I'm only using the figure Warnock used himself.

If we go up, then I expect the owners will spend much more, it will play on their egos being in the premiership and the saturated TV coverage this brings.

                Only my opinion of course

So now the message is that the board understand that we have to act now and replace the players we have lost? They will back warnock? Just want it clear in my mind.

If we got a good fee for Leigertwood from Ipswich or Reading, would NW be able to re-invest this money in a new player.
Ought to be looking at around £1.5 mill? Enough for a Clyne or Austin maybe.

Well if you are now saying it is just what you expected rather than what you were told, I'll give you my prediction: if we are promoted on the (relative) cheap the message from the board in the summer will be: "we've proved we don't need to spend millions to get to the Premier League so why should we spend millions to stay there? And if we do buy lots of expensive players on long contracts, what happens if we get relegated? We are a small club on small gates...." etc, etc, and we will be on to Harry et al begging for some loans. Like Pete's, this is purely a hunch and wd love to be proved wrong.

                              Warnock needs to tread carefully

                              Interesting piece here: http://davidmcintyre.wordpress.com/2...ead-carefully/

                                Hes got it spot on.
The money that we have layed out is phenominal.
The wage bill is huge as well and we are averaging 14,000 gates.
Some people need a reality check.
