Got some time on my hands this morning before leaving for the match so thought I would look around a few other sites.
Noticed that like us, all other teams have midfielders or defenders that weigh in with their share of goals for the team throughout the season but the percentage of goals scored by the actual strikers was significantly higher at the other clubs than ours.
I have only included Hulse, Agyemang, Helguson and Clarke as the strikers because Mackie, Smith and Taarabt are wingers/midfielders.
Apart from which all the other clubs have midfielders etc that are scoring lots of goals.
These stats are based purely on goals scored by the ACTUAL Strikers in the squads and only include League games.
Team - Total Scored - By Strikers - Percentage
Q.P.R. - 42 - 9 - 21%
Swansea - 30 - 8 - 27%
Norwich - 37 - 18 - 49%
Leeds - 45 - 21 - 47%
Cardiff - 37 - 26 - 73%
Watford - 45 - 23 - 51%
As you can see, apart from Swansea all the other clubs strikers have scored more than double in percentage terms than our own.
This post isn't a Witch hunt.
I am not intending to point fingers at any individuals as we all know and have seen, that the forwards have more to do in a game than just score goals but it does make me wonder how well we could do if we had a couple of prolific, bread and butter, goal scorers in the squad.
Maybe we are about to sign one or two - who knows.
Hope so.
