  • Striker Stats.

Got some time on my hands this morning before leaving for the match so thought I would look around a few other sites.

Noticed that like us, all other teams have midfielders or defenders that weigh in with their share of goals for the team throughout the season but the percentage of goals scored by the actual strikers was significantly higher at the other clubs than ours.

I have only included Hulse, Agyemang, Helguson and Clarke as the strikers because Mackie, Smith and Taarabt are wingers/midfielders.
Apart from which all the other clubs have midfielders etc that are scoring lots of goals.
These stats are based purely on goals scored by the ACTUAL Strikers in the squads and only include League games.

Team - Total Scored - By Strikers - Percentage

    Q.P.R. - 42 - 9 - 21%

    Swansea - 30 - 8 - 27%

    Norwich - 37 - 18 - 49%

    Leeds - 45 - 21 - 47%

    Cardiff - 37 - 26 - 73%

    Watford - 45 - 23 - 51%

As you can see, apart from Swansea all the other clubs strikers have scored more than double in percentage terms than our own.

This post isn't a Witch hunt.
I am not intending to point fingers at any individuals as we all know and have seen, that the forwards have more to do in a game than just score goals but it does make me wonder how well we could do if we had a couple of prolific, bread and butter, goal scorers in the squad.

Maybe we are about to sign one or two - who knows.

    Hope so.

Interesting stats & reiterates yet again our need for a front man.

Saying that I would be interested to see the stats for clubs who's midfielders have scored, pretty sure we would be top or 2nd with Taarabt & Mackie having scored 20 between them.

by the way, meant to say very good post rodders.
and it does show what we might be if we had a front man who chipped in with as many as adel and mackie have.
things are so good down the bush, but we all know for 3 to 5 million they could be even better.

We've all been saying it for ages... Now is the time to sign a proven striker to cement our return to the Prem!

Thinking back, we've all thought this for a long time, but for one reason or another it's not happened, but the situation is now crying out for a couple of really exiting signings (no disrespect to the current squad intended) for a last push through the second half of the season.

The club / Warnock will obviously know that we shall have to strenthen once promotion is secured, it makes perfect sense to gurantee the promotion process, and start building the premiership side now.

            Oh, and good stats too!

I wonder how long it is before the "ffs it's only the 1st week of January" Gang come out and play,I would find it amazing if we didn't have someone decent lined up but will eat my hat if we spend big on a striker,we just don't do that, and before anyone says what about Jon waters,we didn't buy him.

How about the states that shows the amount of goals the wide men or midfield men have scored, we must be right up there with that stat?

Another way to think about it. is that it could show we are a harder team to defend against as there is no one outstanding goal scorer, and we are a harder team to break down therefore they need to attack more leaving holes for our players to expose.

You take Cardiff, everyone knows you stop Jay and you take away there attack which is their biggest strenght as a result they lose far to many games and if they dont fix it i think they will be lucky to make the play offs.

Changing and adding a out and out striker who dosnt do a lot regarding defence means we willl have 2 players of that nature, this could have a damaging effect on our defence / midfield and we could then become another Cardiff "easy" team to score against.

I do agree our strikers should more prolific but we need to find the right balance someone like like Graham from Watford would be a good purchase. As he not only scores, he also defends well and links up play.

But feel a out and out striker like some names that have been mentioned could up set the balance of the team dynamics and effect other parts of the way we play.
One for all.... and all for one

youve just said it above. GRAHAM is the best man in the country for our team and the job required.
we would be the strongest side/squad in this division by miles and miles if he joined us this month.
hes got neil warnocks qpr written all through him like a stick of rock.
oh please make them an offer they cant refuse bernie. please.

Good stats. Last season WBA scored 89 goals - Bednar 11, Cox 9, Moore 4, Woods 1 - just 28% of all the goals scored by strikers. For comparison Hooper and Hayes scored 45% of Scunny's goals as they weren't backed up by contributions from midfielders.
