Having landed Matty Fryatt,Hull have now increased their offer for Charlie Austin from £600,000 to £1.2m according to The People this morning. If they get him I for one will get the right hump.We need either Graham or Austin to consolidate our position in the league.Come on the board, what are you waiting for?

But we have Helguson. Hulse. Agyemang. Clarke. Smith. all can play that role , if you go and ask any board or directors that you want a front man when your top of the league have a goal difference of +27 or so thats the reply you'll get, i would assume.

with a striker who scores every other game from open play we would be about 12 points clear imho.
Exactly my point. How long has it been since we last found ourselves in this position. It would be a shame to possibly waste a pefectly good opportunity to get promoted. If,as NW has hinted, the board won't spend until the summer, there's a chance we could miss automatic promotion altogether, and have to rely on the lottery that is the play-offs.Who knows what lurks around the corner,we've lost 3 out of the last 5 games and tomorrow will be a real test.I fancy 1-2 to Bristol (Stead and Pittman).

Really should be in for young talent like Austin.
I'm obviously with you there - Austin is young,6'2",scored 15 goals(I think) and several assists in a team in the lower half of the table.

Only problem is, G.T.P., that strikers with that sort of ratio are difficult to get hold of, as either needed by a Premier league club, or being bought up by one. Goalkeepers and strikers on form are really hard to come by.
Only option would be a loan, so all depends who's available on those terms. I guess, because we're top of the Championship, a premier league club would prefer to loan to us.
If we're looking at a lower league player, we have to consider whether they could cut it against Championship defenders.Last edited by Minty; 02-01-2011, 02:31 PM.Be nice to Minty

Watford are on form at the moment and are pushing for promotion themselves, why would Graham jump ship at this stage? Come the summer if Watford don't make the premiership he might move then, but I cannot see it happening now.22nd February away v Charlton is the 40th Anniversary of my support of QPR and my first game. Away v Chelsea 3-3 23rd Feb 1974. 40 years of pure magic!!

It is very frustrating, as we can all see it - get the players in, we go up.
But in reality it's just not that easy, otherwise we'd do it. 3 to 4 million on one player is a big gamble. Hulse was supposed to set the world alight, but has only scored 1 goal for us.Last edited by Minty; 02-01-2011, 02:40 PM.Be nice to Minty

I still think we need to lose a few -
Vine
Clarke
Borrowdale
Hall
Leigertwood
(Cook......tin hat)
If we could do that, this window, we would greatly reduce the wage bill, possibly gain some funds for the transfer kitty, and could get exactly what we need to push on.
But our owners have shown that they won't throw money at promotion (4 year contracts on vast wages, aside).
Besides, this debate is pointless - we don't know what's going on behind the scenes. It's only January 2nd, and Warnock likes to keep things close to his chest. For all we know, we could well be matching Hull. We just don't know.
I found out yesterday that if Cardiff get promoted, they have to pay Man City for Bellamy's wages. Now, that is seriously going to cut into their promotion winnings. By the same token, if we waste money on players that (a) are going to cost the earth and (b) may not cut it in the premier league, we would dent our ability to build a team that's able to stay up and consolidate.
