  • So whats wrong with the Ricoh?

Thinking of going on tuesday to Coventry, not been to the new Ricoh Arena before, and I've noticed some have mentioned how cr4p the new stadium is. Whats wrong with it?

Was only built in 2005, and the first game was v QPR ironically.

Anyone else going remember it's a 12.15 KO

      I'm being sent to Coventry.

Never been to the Ricoh before, but been to Highfield Rd several times, but yeah, several people I know who have been to the Ricoh have told me that it's not one of their favourite stadiums to watch football in.
Can't wait to see for myself what the Ricoh's like. :yush:

Nice stadium, its probably that we don't do to well when we play there why people don't like it.

Not the stadium itself i don't like,it's the 5 to 6 mile trip from the train station.Same as the Madjeski, nice stadium, rubbish location.

If you are driving though it's fine. One of the best to get to by car.

Im thinking of going by train on tuesday, is there a bus that runs to the ground? Went by car last year and it is an easy journey.

You can get a bus from Tesco's that goes by the stadium.

But you need to get there by bus from the station.

If you are feeling flush then get a cab to the Ricoh from the station.

sat through the worst game I've ever attended there several years ago. Midweek. 0-0. Would be a nice stadium if full.

Cheers for the info! Sounds complicated enough!

It didn't help being the first visitors, the place was half-finished with bare wires hanging from ceilings and gaffer tape where there should have been proper fixings.
Atmosphere can be poor -- I took some photos last year and the year before of the swathes of empty seats at kick-off -- the stadium seems too big for their current needs.

                            god, where to start?

it's a concrete monstrosity in a town known for concrete monstrosities. i say 'in the town', i mean about 5 miles outside the town in the middle of bumf*ck nowhere, and transport links that make yesterday's ridiculous sojourn into W12 look like a slick operation.

it's never more than half full, and it has the unique property of managing to drain whatever atmosphere a half full stadium can generate completely away from the stadium.

then there's the pre-match stadium announcer, who always says things like 'let's hear it from the TESCO STAND', where three people half heartedly cheer, almost embarrassed.

and we always do badly there...
