  • Were Season Tickets too cheap?

An interesting point was made by Devo yesterday on Reports site that when we had the big season ticket increase a few years ago there were not too many complaints made actually to the club apart from the usual moans on message boards including from myself

However does anyone recall back in the early-mid nineties when the price did not increase for a few years and we also got all our home Cup games thrown in for free as well

My season ticket then cost me £182 and I remember that many of us were amazed we got it so cheap and would have at the time paid more which as a consumer of any product must be extremely rare

At that time we got chatting to some Burnley fans in a pub in Chiswick before a game and they told us they paid over £300 which really astonished us but not for one moment did we think the club were being generous to us but were the then board of QPR simply naive regarding pricing?

Of course since those days we have had increase after increase though mine in JU was reduced this season but I dread to think what plans are in place for next season if we go up!

I wonder if Devo could give us an insight as to how a club (any club) sets it prices?

Obviously sales do not cover the whole running costs including wages etc so is it a case of seeing what they can realistically get away with at the time knowing that some fans will be alienated or does a lot of it come down to how the club is doing at the time and future projection of bums on seats

think you have to take into account players wages now, and the fact that we were getting money from the prem league at the time , i think if we go up the ticket prices will go through the roof and there will be a lot of unhappy fans not just on message boards.

      All about market forces.

The season tickets next season will obviously go up next season, but after years we are getting value for money.

Going back to when we were promoted to the championship it was great we got pass the 10,000 season ticket barrier and that was due to the prices not going up and the europhia of promotion. I think maybe BP and MD got a little carried away in the belief we would again gain automatic promotion to the Premiership straight after, you cannot blame them, because they are both QPR fans. The second season in the championship was always going to be difficult to maintain the amount of fans interest, because for some once visited championship grounds it gets a little boring 2,3 and 4th time around. The main reason we could never fight with the big boys was because we had the mighty ABC loan over our heads and thats why outside investment was looked for, to help out the dire straits we found ourselves in,

The demand will go through the roof if we managed promotion and I just hope the club are sensible with prices and look after the most loyal of fans and maybe charge what i would call the gloryhunter a little bit more

Pete, on the basis there are only 19 home games in the Prem rather than 23 we get now how can price increases be justified? I understand they will use the "we're in the prem" excuse and know 4 less games equals less food, programs etc but I think our already quite high prices with 4 games less should stay around the same.

The club gets £90M for going up don't they?! What more do they want.

Current prices are in line with a fair few Prem clubs I believe.
