  • Terracing to be brought back?

    Well...'safe standing areas'

I really hope this happens. Stick them either side of the away fans, at least, and it'll help the atmosphere, as well as drown out the away support.

Great idea if this goes ahead.

Would love it. It was the fences that was the problem. The Paddocks could be made terracing

Can't see that happening, mate. It's the best access for disabled supporters.

They have terraced areas in German stadia. I think they may be seated areas that can be converted easily to tarraces, though not sure. This may be pricey to do, but gives flexibility of safetly issues come up again.

Great idea, I would make the paddocks and lower loft terracing and keep the rest as seats. That has the potential of bolstering attendances, maybe we wouldn't need a new stadium.

We'd all love it to happen, but it's not likely. Even little ol' Scunthorpe are having to go all-seater.

Lets hope commone sense prevails here and it returns. We have moved on from the times supporters could get duplicate or copied tickets, clubs giving far too many tickets for one area.

Even if a health and safety inspector walked around the ground and gave his number for what he felt was safe for crowd to stand, the clubs could adhere to it.

Seating has certainly stifiled the atmosphere and for me its a no brainer. Trouble is the England we live in today, doubt it will ever happen. We are forever governed by silly petty rules and even though many fans stand anyway in all leagues, doubt they will have the common sense to change the current system

One of the best ever "terrace times" was Birch's winner away at Brentford.
All came forward, pushed on the pitch, going mental, Birch's Guiness Byrne shirt out!!
Never get anywhere near that with seating.

When you look at live televised games these days and most away games I have been to in all these flash stadiums nearly all of times you will see the away fans stood up for the whole game and even some of the home fans so forcing people to sit down now has become virtually impossible. It is about time the powers that be took a sensible look at things and not rule anything out.

However, all these clubs who have paid fortunes to convert their/build new stadiums to all seater ones. I can't see them being too keen to spend another fortune converting them back into terracing?

I can't see it happening. Just a nice little populist talking shop for the Lib-Dems whilst they railroad through the tuition fee legislation. Convenient, eh.

A cursory logistical glance at why....

Cost of safe standing is enormous with absolutely zero chance of the clubs making that revenue up.

Today's new stadia and new stands are made of prefabricated sections of concrete steps specifically designed to have seats bolted to them. They are not designed for up to treble the number of people they were designed for to stand on them. Access, egress, emergency exits and the internal vomitories are all designed to cope with seating and the movement of crowds through those areas in orderly fashion and not the mass throng or crowd movements. These prefab sections would need major strengthening and exits recalibrated. Expensive. The new German stadia were built with standing in mind.

*Some* grounds where seats were bolted on to the terraces *may* be able to return to standing at a more limited cost. IMO The paddocks and the School end could be easily converted, the Loft couldn't be.

The cost for supporters would remain the same, clubs wouldn't reduce prices as the safety certificates will not allow any more people in the sections of the ground they are licenced for, regardless of standing or seating, due to the evacuation procedures.

It's just a major non starter and a sop to "the common football fan."

This is something that really hacks me off at the moment. We are becoming a nation of battery hens, to scared to fart.

Might sound harmless enough but sometimes people can follow through and then it all gets a little messy.
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

I am one who is not scared to let rip and it often gets me in trouble! Mind you I can gauge whether it will be just hot air or something a lot more sh***y.
