  • Charlie Austin

QPR,Burnley and Leeds are in a three way tug of war for his signature according to this mornings Daily Mail.

The former bricklayer,21,has scored 27 goals in 41 games since joining Swindon from Poole Town in July 2009.
Hopefully our geographical position and our promotion ambitions may be enough to convince him to come to us.

I'm a little surprised at the lack of resonse to this thread. Most seem to be harbouring desires for the likes of Roberts,Keane and Nugent and not neccessarily to looking to the future.
This kid is 21,6'2" and apart from his 27 goals in little over a season for Swindon,he scored 48 in 42 for Poole Town and a remarkable 73 in 59 as a 16 year old for non -league Thatcham Town.
Keane and/or Roberts would be great to see us into the Prem, but what about staying there as these players get older.
Neil has unearthed gems like Taarabt and Faurlin and I think that Austin is worth a look at least.

Taarabt and Faurlin had already be discovered, but I would say he has got more out of Taarabt than most. As for this lad, we should buy him but loan him out to a Championship club for the rest of the season.

well i have to say that its definately true that we are after signing this kid,and yes i hope we sign him,....................hes real class and one of warnocks gifts as a manager is to get players to perform above there average,so yeah we are deffo going up so buy him and ,let swindon keep him for another two seasons
then we unleash him as the boy wonder in the prem

If we do sign him (I haven't seen enough of him to comment on his ability), there'd be little sense in sending him out on loan. The lad's 21, not 17, and it'd benefit him more to stay with us and make some appearances from the bench in the second half of the season, with a view to starting in 2011-12.

Given that we only use one out-and-out striker, any arrival of Austin would surely have ramifications for Helguson, Hulse and Dave.

Would be a superb signing, agree with californiahoop about loaning out for rest of season.
My first game was boxing day 96 QPR 3-2 Norwich....yes we actually beat Norwich.

To Sign him and then loan him out would be incredibly stupid

Have you seen enough of this lad to say he would get pass RH, HH, PA, LC, or if pushed JM or TS? and if the rumours are true about Roberts then add him to the list.

It's just an opinion but, to ensure he gets games at a higher level and not to the detriment of the team, loan him out to a championship club a month at a time and see how he goes, if he is banging them in and we are struggling then get him back.

Two things I'd like to pick up on in your post which I've highlighted above. The first on regarding the players we are interested in. We could take two approaches. Depends on the money Swindow want. You seem to forget just because a player has done it in the lower leagues doesn't mean he'll continue that as he progresses up the leagues look at Beckford at Everton and Jamie Ward even at Sheffield Utd. Both scored for fun in the lower leagues but not much as they've progressed up the leagues. At least with the names like Roberts, Keane (who I think is complete rubbish) and Nugent they are all proven at this level.

The second point is your comments about Faurlin and Taarabt. Both were not unearthed by Warnock, both played for QPR under previous managers? They look better now in our side simply because the players they have around them, no other reason. Warnock has simply got the right blend of players and has installed a great work effic and team spirit. Bit confused what you're getting at here?

Point taken.I got a bit carried away with NW transforming relative unknowns into potential superstars almost overnight.I bow to your better knowledge and considerably younger brain.

                              don't want him.
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!
