  • Mentality To Win The "Big Game"

When was the last time, we truly won a big game?

    Play off semi?

    Hillsborough?

At last we have the mental strength to win big games and more more importantly when we play the lesser teams in this division, we come out on top. Portsmouth haev shown they can play well against the better teams, but they lose to lesser teams.

That in itself takes character to keep your game at high level against the Prestons of this world and we have it in bucketloads...................

Expect the same level of mental strength aganst Hull City

I did think its was the mosting important game since sheff wed away.

I do think Portsmouth have a very good side and if cardiff lose a few players I can see pompey getting top 2. We need to keep getting results because there really is a long way to go. If we add in jan then I think we will finish top 2. At the moment I still think we are punching above our weight because we have the best manager in the league
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

Pete the events which you mention are teams from different era's and more importantly different manager.

The Holloway team of 2003 winning a big game has no link at all to the Warnock team of Saturday.

I would rephrase it to say
"Now Warnock is here, we have the big game mentality"

Pompey away, Swansea Away, CArdiff home!!

Palace away last season was a huge game.

If we'd lost that game, we probably would have been off to MK Dons this weekend.

We didn't... it was the turning point that's led us to where we are now.

Have to wait and see. In November, these games don't have anything like the type of pressure that games in April will hold.

Referring back to IH's side - we rolled over Plymouth in November but then lost the pressure games at Home Park and Ashton Gate.

Wait and see but it does look promising.

I think that since we hit the top they've all been big games and our attitude/performance has been so encouraging, and as you say, something we're not used to.
I think the team have risen to each occasion and the mental atitude is spot on.
All I want now is for some of our bleeding fans to get the same positive mental attitude.... the negativity/pessimism of some has done my head in; you'd wouldn't believe that we've never been out of automatic promotion spot since day 1 of season if you read some posts over the weeks/months.
Hopefully, even our more cautious fans will feel able to puff their chests out a bit after Saturday's result.

                    Nodge 70,

I do take you'll point about games being won in April, but when you beat your closest pursurers now it bodes well for the future. It was a cooker pressure on Saturday we came out on top, which shows the mentality is spot on

Also, Tarrabt quietened people who feels for the big games he goes missing after that wonder strike against cardiff
