Hmm - undecided about him (Faurlin). Clearly a good player at this level, though have my doubts about ability to perform higher up. Lacks strength; would be steamrolled by the physical monsters in the PL (DeJong, Essien, Mikel, Carrick, Huddlestone) and not quick enough to get away with it. Needs a weights programme!

NB - Orr, Mackie and Hulse are nowhere near good enough for the PL - really nowhere near.

kenny taraabt faurlin thats all for me.

Could our defence do a job on drogba and torres?

Could are midfield play against chelsea, arsenal, man city midfield?

could mackie hulse etc play well v rio and vidic?

I know the names mentioned are champions league players, it depends what we want? if we want to avoid relegation, then maybe a few more. But if we want to at least compete in the top half I think we will need to spend a lot of dough.

            All impossible to say really.

I mean... look at Luke Varney. He was widely considered a joke signing for a CCC team a few weeks ago!
            .....us.

More importantly, our manager is well up to it.

IF we went up - not sure a section of our fans would be as realistic and patient as they should be.... which brings it back to the reaction to Varney on here a few weeks ago.
            But that's another debate.

Nodge I think you are going on your Tottenham experience a little too much. Suspect our ambitions will be a lot more modest - ie to stay up, at least in our first season. Spurs have some unbelieveable talent that can't get a game - Palacios even - whereas Blackpool have in defence Ian Evett, and I wouldn't swap him for Connolly or Gorks (or even Hall!). Faurlin is better than you give him credit for imho. However, I agree with you totally about Hulse and Mackie - they aren't as good as their counterparts in a handful of Championship clubs, let alone Premierhip. Hulse is way too slow and not clinical enough for the Prem. Mackie has yet to prove he has got it consistently at Championship level, let alone the next level up. As for Orr, thought he was quite good but also accept that if Walker is the standard we need to be a premiership force then Braders, for all his huff and puff, falls well short.

On this season's performance, only Walker and Derry. Obviously one isn't ours and the clock is ticking louder and louder for the other but they are the [only] two that have shown enough class (and I agree with comments of others that quality of Prem is in decline). Most others would get by at best. Which might be enough but that wasn't the question! Adel would be out of his depth against most prem defences. His losss of possession would kill his value when we were better punished for it. Hulse and Helg no way. Faurlin not physical enough (can't score even at this level and more than 1 is a requirement of midfielders), Out of the rest Kenny would come closest. Jury out on Buz.

Think people are underestimating the value of team spirit here. I'm not saying strengthening the squad won't be necessary but a strong unit playing for each other can match many a collection of talented individuals.

One thing I think we'll definitely need however is a bit more pace at the back.

It depends on our ambitions when we get there really. If we are just looking to survive then, based on this year and the performances of the promoted clubs, I would have no doubt that most, if not all of our best starting 11 could scrape the necessary points together, especially with NW in charge.

If we were looking for comfortable mid-table, then a new striker/strikers, holding midfielder (using Derry as cover), and a new LB...ideally whilst keeping Walker.

Any higher than that we would really be looking to only keep Tarbs, Faurlin, Kaspars, Kenny and maybe Connolly as first choice players.

Goddard was spot on though when he said that NW is up to the job, and I have no doubt he would strengthen where he saw fit.
