  • Mikele Leigertwood, 1.5 yrs left on contract?

He said: “I have another year left on my QPR contract after this season and who knows what will happen.

“If I do well here then Reading might look to extend it, but both parties will have to look at it.

“We’ll just have to wait and see. Jobi has told me a lot about the place and everyone has been very welcoming. Me and him go way back.

“The managers, players and all the staff have been first class and even if Jobi wasn’t here I wouldn’t have had a problem settling in.”

Everyone was saying he signed a new 4 yr contract?

    Paper and Messageboard talk.

Think he originally signed a 4 year deal when he joined and it may have been extended for a year/two.

Good thing having 1 and half years left, if a team wants him in January, we get a fee.

The way some people go on, they would give players 1 or 2 year contracts, then lose money because they invariably go for free.

I would value him at about half a million,ok,shite at passing but a solid defender and can do a job in midfield, decent squad player

Hmmm I don't want to get into the GP debate but I get the impression people make things up just to have a pop at him.

At a guess I would say 7-8 maybe more of the players he was involved in signing are in the first team or squad, he may not be whiter than white but the man has done a good job!

Absof'inglutely I would do that. Two year contract, a season to prove yourself and then renegotiate/extend contract if its deserved.

Stops us having deadwood on long contracts sitting back in the reserves we cant shift, using up cash. I dont think we need to list those players again but we have too many of them at the club.

                  Sir Les,

                  Don;t agree..

Take a player like faurlin, no-one knows him outside of the UK. You sign him for 2 years, he runs down his contract.

How much do expect to get for him?

whereas he has a 3-4 year contract, worth much more if anyone wants to buy him.

                  Above is just an example

Pete the problem here is that for every Faurlin there are 3 Legsofwood , in my personal opinion there was No way he deserved a new 3year deal @ £10k a week on the for he was showing :rage:

Lucky Faurlin turned out to be a good player then otherwise we'd be stuck with another lemon we couldnt shift.

You cant seriously be saying that we should agree 4 year deals for every signing? Isnt that what got us into the mess in the first place when Flav and dare I say it, Paladini were calling the shots?

You can say what you want mate, its a free society and we all support the same club

I'm just saying if we had not given long-term deals to Connolly, Gorkss, Faurlin, Helguson and others they could have gone for free by now.

I take what you saying and you could argue back about Vine, legiterwood and a couple of others, reality is they have either gone or will be, now we are stepping up a gear and giving 100% support to Warnock

Also, the fee you pay another club is not normally dependent on the length of contract you give the player.

So after 18 months if you give a player 2 years and he turns out to be class, you'd be p.issing the money up the wall, because he could go for free

Totally agree, unless of course we have paid a big fee for a player, in which case a longer contract makes sense!

Swings and roundabouts I suppose Pete.

Importantly, we're top of the league and finally the club appears to be moving in the right direction.
