Take a player like faurlin, no-one knows him outside of the UK. You sign him for 2 years, he runs down his contract.

How much do expect to get for him?

whereas he has a 3-4 year contract, worth much more if anyone wants to buy him.

    Above is just an example
Inter Milan know of him, didn't they want to sign him?

1.5yrs left....jeez does this not prove how much we needed NW....giving players of his and Aggies ability such long contracts really was a massive mistake

Whatever people think of him he is still an asset - with Preston also keen on him it should be possible to get money for him in January. The mistake was giving long contracts to people such as Agyman (Vine's long contract only turned out to be a disaster because of his injury). The problem is you don't know you are signing a lemon at the time or you would never sign them. The lesson is that from now on when we sign good players who may step up to the prem, get them on long contracts and when we are going for stop gap players (Hill, Derry etc) make sure they are not too long. We seem to be doing that now.
