We had 17 on Saturday, incredibly, yet from memory with the exception of a Gorks header we never really looked like scoring from any of them. You would expect to put at least one away from that number of set plays, particularly when unlike in the past we have some seriously strong, tall aerial players. Most of the deliveries from Tabs looked pretty good (we weren't guilty of my pet hate - failing to beat the first man) yet they just didn't provide much of a threat, and that against a very rattled defence. If you look back at the game, despite our countless chances it took two wonder strikes and a real goalkeeping howler to win. Think the return of Tommy Smith should offer a big improvement and although Hulse was much, much better on Saturday I still think Helguson is more clinical.
Cardiff will almost certainly gift us far fewer chances - how do we ensure we convert a couple of them?

It is an area that needs work on and for as long as I can remember we've not been great at corners. The taker plus the players have to come up with a couple of routines and practice them at training because we are missing vital opportunities to get on the score sheet. Up and down the country teams score hatful of goals from corners.

Agreed. When El Tel was manager the players had so many hand signals for different types of corners some of the more intellectually challenged players clearly used to struggle to remember half of them. Warnock is a great motivator but surely the coach should be doing a bit more on the technical side than he's currently doing.

With the 17 corners we didn't seem to vary them much, same old lofting the ball with no one on the end. I would like to see more variations and someone alternating with Tarbs.

I'd like to see AT on the edge of the box waiting for the ball to be cleared out to him, so he can score more goals like he did Saturday.
Smith could take some of the corners.
