  • January Transfer Budget Quesion

    1. Neil Warnock is given £5M and told to do with it as he likes.
    2. There is no transfer activity in or out of the club. The purse strings are firmly closed and the manager is told to get on with it with the personnel at the club.

Do you think we could get promoted with either option?

We need to spend in January, for that Striker we've been after for the last number of years. Then we will be promoted for sure.
Opinions are like A******s, everyone has one, but nobody wants to see the other guy's.

Need to off load some deadwood and bring 2 or 3 in.

Promotion would be much more likely with the 1st option.

However, I fear the 2nd option is mre likely, given the recent 'alleged' (coz the club won't confirm) developments off the pitch.

Squad wise, we still need to bolster our strike force. Most promoted teams are very strong in this area.
And if OneSize remains injury prone or a liability, we'll need decent CB cover.
Walker will be gone in New Year (no chance of signing him IMHO) and Hill is probably not quick enough to cope with a pacy striker.

I can't see option 2 happening! Where we are in the table will motivate the owners surely

£5m with Warnock left in sole charge should, bar calamities, all but seal us promotion. Without any further investment I'd say it would be between us, Swansea and Burnley for the second automatic slot (ie a one in three chance) boosted a little by the outside possibility of promotion via the lottery of the play offs.

A more realistic take on option 2, ie offload some of the deadwood on big wages - Leigertwood, Cook, Vine, Agyemang probably too - and bring in 1 player Warnovk wants...

Obviously easier said than done as our door is unlikely to be knocked down by clubs looking to sign said deadwood
