- He's delighted to have signed for QPR. Giant step for him, been dreaming of playing in England since he was a young lad.
- Big club with tradition.
- Looking foward to a fight for promotion.
- There was interest from other clubs in England, Netherlands and Germany. Choose QPR because we've been following him closely for 6 months, and knows what he's all about.
- Been told he'll play as a central midfielder(Faurlins role?) or behind the striker(Taarabt).
His agent says:
- That the deal has been on the cards for a while, but only just signed today.
- That QPR has been following him closely for a long time, and lots of people at QPR have seen him play.
- The championship is the right level for Petter, and he will go straight into the team(doubt that!)
Thanks for the link. Can you translate?
What's he like? Quick? Worker? Tricky? Finisher?
"Vaagan Moen started his career in Ham-Kam and helped the club to promotion to the Tippeliga in 2003. Vaagan Moen's great crosses and free-kicks got him noticed by the big clubs in Norway, and he was though upon as one of the biggest talent in Norwegian football.
In 2005, Vaagan Moen signed with SK Brann, a deal worth 10 million NOK (approx £1 million). The winger quickly established himself as a regular on the first team, and was an important contribution to Brann's first league title since 1963. In the 2008 and 2009 season he did not play as good as expected, and many thought he had lost his potential.
In the 2010 season he was positioned as a center midfielder and he scored 14 goals and was Brann's topscorer and was select player of the year. Because of his good form he was called up to the Norway national team for the first time since 2007. After the 2010 season he chose not to renew his contract with Brann because of several offers from foreign clubs."
he can play on the left as well, yes so there is another option to Ephraim and Smith if needed. He is getting a bit of stick for his physical game and his speed, but makes up for it in fighting spirit and his scoring ability. Good option to Taarabt if we need to change pace and play a more direct game.
For me this is a good sign of us strengthening our squad. He is out of contract and could link well with our other attacking options. QPR has been scouting him for 6months and we never heard anything about until the end of season over here. I think we are in for a few surprises in January...NW and co. are bound to have a few players lined up already.
"On the 10th of November 2010 Vaagan Moen signed a 2,5 years contract with the English Championship club Queens Park Rangers on a free transfer. He will join the team on the 1st of January when his contract with Brann expires"
Hope that isn't true, I was looking forward to hopefully seeing him play against Preston.
Under Les Ferdinand:
Luke Freeman, top assists in the league: 4million
Alex Smithies, great goalie for this club: 3,5million
Charlie Austin, 19 Premier League goals: 4million
Jack Robinson: Contract ran out, left for free
And many more mistakes
The contract between Brann and club's topscorer in 2010 expires at the end of the year, and Petter can leave the club with no transfer fee. Vaagan Moen does say that it is with a heavy heart and lots of gratitude he leaves the club.
- I am very grateful for what I have been allowed to be a part of here in Bergen and I owe a lot to Brann. But when the best club in the english Championship wants to sign me, I just couldn't say no, says Petter Vaagan Moen to Brann.no.
- Not even if Brann made you a better offer?
- I would like to emphasize that I received a generous offer from Brann, and I think they would have increased it as well had I asked them to. But this was not about money. This was about grabbing an opportunity and making the most of my carreer. A footballing carreer is short, Petter points out.
The 26-year old from Hamar, left for London wednesday morning and has undergone the medical examination. On thursday he signed the contract with Queens Park Rangers.
- Things have gone smoothly over here and I have signed a two and a half year contract with QPR, he confirms.
Vaagan Moen has always been a very ambitious player, and he believs that his carreer will get a boost from moving to London and British football.
- I always like to go to the next level. I know what my goals are, and I think QPR is the right club for me now. You will always be taking a risk when you leave a club where you have had success, but I am willing to take that risk. My goal is to have a strong influence in our matches and of course being selected for the Norwegian natioan squad, says Petter.
Brann's head coach Rune Skarsfjord thanks Petter for his efforts for Brann and wishes him the best of luck.
- Petter has been a very good player and a great person to work with. We understand that this is the right choice for him now, and we wish him success, says Skarsfjord to Brann.no.
Petter Vaagan Moen ends his Brann-carreer after 158 matches and 35 goals. The last fourteen goals have come in the 2010-season when Petter also was selected as Player of the Year by the Brann-supporters. Vaagan Moen came to Brann from Ham-Kam before the 2006-season, and won the league with Brann in 2007.
Hard to tell without ever having seen him or frankly heard of him until this rumour appeared but he sounds to be of a decent standard. Warnock has proved himself masterful at finding cheap talent (his only signing I think there is much doubt about is Clarke, and in fairness Warno always said he was a gamble and so far hasn't had much opportunity). Am happy to believe he is brilliant until proven otherwise.
Regarding Petter Vaagan, thats a bargain without doubt. Almost become the topscorer in Norway from MIDFIELD position and with a team struggling to survive in the league..thats pretty solid. Considering this he earned some international caps again and look well inside that as well. Typical winger, although can play behind strikers as well...Fantastic freekicks, I will say thats international standard...also very hardworking and intelligent player. Without a doubt - a great signing..and he was ready for going abroad. A bit like Adam Johnson, just much better attitude.
