  • Should we throw (away) the FA Cup...

... like we did the League Cup, basically?
I think we should make an effort, but I know many will disagree and say focus on the league challenge. I just do not like it, giving up on a chance to win something without really trying.

Yes, field a weak team to lose - we need to focus on the league alone

No, make an effort in the FA Cup as well, two chances better than one

I have very modest ambitions for the FA Cup - avoid being knocked out at the first time of trying.

      Bit daft.

You should always try in the FA Cup as it won't hurt.

        Agree.
I quite fancy a league/cup double winning season.

Field a weakened team (to avoid injuries) but should still be looking to win

Absolutely hope we go out straight away, and I'll tell you why. Or ask Neil what happened in 2002/3, check it out. They were flying in the league, favourites to go up. Then they got involved up to the SF's of the league cup, just losing to Liverpool in extra time.

FA cup all the way to the SF, lost 1-0 to Arsenal. They were playing attacking football then against everybody, Prem or not, like Burnley a couple of seasons ago. Neil was lapping up the tv courage, I'd say he had a big ego then which got the better of him. He and Sheff utd were the lower league upstarts and he loved it.

I said it to myself then, these cup runs will cost you dearly, and unfortunately I was proved right. Clubs get giddy from beating higher teams and it still happens today. Look what happened to Leeds after they beat Man U last season, went on a big losing run, only just got promoted on the last day.

His team were so good, that if they had gone up then, they could have survived a couple of seasons, cemented their place, and we would never have got him. Has anyone who's got his book any confirmation on what he thought about that period?

So no thanks, once you go past that 3rd round, you're in trouble, the expectation level rises and it's harder to be seen to lose. Yes, the cup games are on saturdays, but that's not the problem. It's the replays, tiredness and injuries that take an unforgiving toll.

And if we get promoted, and he's still here, survival will be the only priority, that's a certainty.

Depends. Big game, go for it, Sheffield United/Coventry/Palace/insert mediocre CCC outfit then rest players and see what happens.

When did we get so arrogant, as to decide we don't want a FA cup run?

I'm with Steve, let's go up first, and worry about the FA Cup next season, this season we just want to go up automatically, we still have 31 games left, 93 points to play for, we don't need the distraction of a cup run.

its not arrogance, its called not wanting any added distractions and making the players even more tired or under pressure.
                    premiership is the only goal.

We can play our bench players:
                      Cerny
                      Borrowdale Hall Orr Liegertwood

                      Cook Mahon Rowlands Ephraim

                      Agyemand Clarke

                        That lot would get hammered.

We don't want another Vauxhall motors on our hands
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

It is arrogant, after a fashion, to decide that we have bigger fish to fry than the greatest cup competition in the world. Remember the reaction to Manchester United when they decided to pull out altogether for a year?

Also, it's not usually something we have to 'choose' anyway......the decision to not have cup run is usually made for us.

And one more, a good cup run may provide extra confidence and positivity in the second half of the season, rather than being a distraction.

Deepcut I agree with you mate. Unfortunately some will say it has lost its glamour but I really love the competition and we should look to progress

im certainwarnock threw the carling cup, and id like to think he will do the same thing in the fa cup. unless we get a really poor team who the bench could beat, and let clarke and pat score a couple, and then lose the next game against a better side.
but replays to carlilse etc is the last thing we need. this is our best chance to get into the premiership ever, and if its arrogance to want that so bad to ensure the future of our club, then lets be arrogant shites then i say.
