My worry is that if you are in with a shout of first you still have second to fall back on; if you are realistically gunning for second you only have the play offs to fall back on, and then as has already been commented the team that has been leading the way and then falling back into the play off zone hardly ever gets promoted.

I dont care if we get promoted via the play offs, I just want us in the Prem !! 1st or 2nd place would be ideal though, with promotion guaranteed before the final game.

the play offs are the best way to do it.
exciting all the way throught the first two legs, and a lot more games to enjoy, and if you dont make the premiership down to a dodgy penalty or a refs bad day, it doesnt matter, at least you had a good day out at wembley/cardiff.

Although I agree that winning a promotion in a thrilling match at Webley would be a magical day out - my nerves can't take it. It would be great though.

Still prefer the safe option of automatic.

Playoffs are only the best way to do it if you can guarantee the victory in the final.

me? i'd take P46 W46 over playoffs every time!

The reason some people are a little worried is that 3rd place usually doesn't go up...6th does!! We don't wan't to come 6th and to come 1st or 2nd is very hard in this league, whatever start you get.

Some people on the boards think that a good start means we are almost up and that no one can comment otherwise without being branded a whinger or negative.

The facts are that there are more than just 2 clubs that could finish in the top 2. I don't think we are the best team in the league, so it will be a roller coaster.
In three of the last five seasons the team in 3rd has gone up (Hull 07/08, Derby 06/07, Watford 05/06). The last couple of seasons Blackpool (6th) and Burnley (5th) won promotion but before that West Ham & Palace were 6th and Wolves and Birmingham were 5th going into the Play Offs. No team who finished 4th has been promoted to the Premiership this decade.

West Brom aren't doing too badly from the runners up spot

Neither are Stoke or Birmingham who both went up as runners up in the last few years.

agree with you on this Pete. It would pain me if Cardiff won the league allbeit they won me 600 pounds last night.
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

I just like the idea of streaking away with league and securing promotion by February... purely so I can relax and don't have to be bricking myself before every one of last 10 games.
I do think leading from the front takes a very special/winning mentality. Basically, if we storm to promotion it sets us up nicely for the future. But, if we stutter, gasp and wheeze our way over the finish line it'll leave us questioning our Prem credentials.

Going up as champions of the Championship would be doing it with style.
A bit of silverware to mark our promotion would be great. Better QPR, than Baahhdiff shitty, I don't want us to come second to that shower of shyte, ever.

it wd be lovely but you also have to say that our team now isn't fit to tie the shoe laces of many of the players who were in our 81/2 champions team. you would pick tabs ahead of tony sealy for sure and walker wd give warren neil a run for his money, but who else?

A few more than that. Faurlin, Buzz (if he stays fit), Connolly, Derry even, although he's a bit past his sell-by date, he's been a very solid player in the past, and at a higher level. Same applies to HH, whatever people might think of him -- he's been playing injured for a while, remember.
Still think we haven't seen the best of Smith, yet, either.
Prob a couple more, but, at this time of the morning my brain hasn't quite woken up yet.
(btw way, i assume you're talking about the 82-3 promotion team?)
Faurlin is my hero!!! Love him!!! #########
