  • What would you rather?

Playing lots of really expansive football in the great Rs tradition, winning games 5-3 (a bit like stages of last season with Buz and Tabs curling in some beauties from distance) but also losing a fair few games and running the risk of pleasing the crowd but ultimately not winning anything; or grinding out results so watching us becomes a bit like "1-0 to the Arsenal" in the old George Graham days, with Rangers becoming the team neutrals don't really like?

Don't have an agenda in this as I sit somewhere in the middle in the current rumpus - have thought all along that we need one more up front but at the same time think some fans seriously underestimate the value of having a rock solid defence and holding midfield.

I think the approach on Friday said it all -- passing game (which didn't come off, as several players were passing a few inches short) (not just AT, before someone jumps down my throat), but then a direct route with the long ball for the last 15 minutes when a result was needed and not looking likely.

Lovely to see the pretty football, and for plenty of games this season it's got us the results, but the ability to bulldoze our way to, or grind out, the results needed, is the difference between the successful Championship teams and the also-rans.
I'm happy with either -- if the results are right.
    End justifies the means.

i think warnock is a manager who will make sure we are a '1-0 to the arsenal' kind of side.
and we are going that way, and look solid as a rock, couple of tweaks and maybe one or two newmans come january and our target should be achieved.

I've said previously that once we've won the Premiership, Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup every season for 5 years then I'll demand pretty football.

Until then I'm happy just watching us win. So many years of watching unsuccessfully bad football that I'll take some bore draws and the odd 1-0 win just to see us have some success. Come 5 o'clock on Saturday I'd rather have seen us win 1-0 then to have lost 5-4. Watching a match where we play great football but ultimately lose is fun for all of five minutes but being in the pub for hours after the game shouting the odd "U Rrrs" is much more fun because of a boring win.
