  • 13 Games In...

    QPR 10/11 - 29 Points after 13 games

    Newcastle 09/10 - 24 Points after 13 games
    WBA 09/10 - 24 Points after 13 games

    Wolves 08/09 - 28 Points after 13 games
    Birmingham 08/09 - 30 Points after 13 games

    WBA 07/08 - 23 Points after 13 games
    Stoke 07/08 - 20 Points after 13 games

    Sunderland 06/07 - 16 Points after 13 games
    Birmingham 06/07 - 21 Points after 13 games

SO other than Birmingham two seasons ago we are ahead of the two teams promoted each season for the last few years. And for those of you moaning about the lack of goals just how many had Newcastle and WBA scored at the same stage last season? WBA scored 24 and Newcastle just 19 - Birmingham the year before had scored just 18 goals.

And for those of you moaning about our failure to beat the leagues bottom team how did some of the teams above do against the teams who were relegated that season?

Newcastle last season failed to beat Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

Birmingham 08/09, failed to win at Charlton, failed to beat Norwich either home or away. Wolves 08/09, lost 5-3 at Norwich and drew 3-3 at home to Norwich. Both promoted sides in 08/09 failed to beat relegated Norwich that season.

WBA in 07/08 lost 4-1 at home to relegated Leicester and lost 3-2 at relegated Colchester the year they won the league. Stoke failed to beat Leicester home or away that season as well.

Sunderland in 06/07 lost 3-1 to relegated Southend, Birmingham also lost 3-1 to Southend at home that season. Birmingham only managed a draw at home to relegated Luton and lost away to them as well. They also lost away to relegated Leeds that season.

Undefeated and new club record but hey lets all have a good moan because we've drawn a few games recently.

Oh and if you look at my signature we are still ahead of the 10 year average!

Unfortunately the people who should read them will just ignore them and start another thread to have another good old moan.

We are top of the league and unbeaten after 13 matches. Unbelieveable that some aren't happy with how our club is performing. Warnock and the players will have learnt a lot over the last 3 matches and those 3 points could make all the difference come May. In previous years we would have given up the fight and would have lost last night and with our luck at least one of the missed penalties would have gone in.

Are these teams the teams that had the most points after 13 games? Or just highlighted as they were promoted at the end of the season. I seem to remember Watford running away with the league a couple of years ago and finishing sixth and Cardiff having a good start one year and finishing midtable. A more accurate reflection would be to show who was top after 13 games and where they finished the season.

These are the teams promoted that season. You are right about Watford they had 32 points after 13 games in 07/08 and in 06/07 Cardiff had 29 points after 13 games and of course neither were promoted and a year from now we could be looking back at this start having failed like they did. But as a straight comparison between us and the previous teams promoted we aren't doing too badly.

If we "do" a Watford/Cardiff then I'll put my hands up and say this was a poor comparison but if we don't then fantastic.

This is all fair enough if you take the 13 games as a whole, but if you split it into the first 8 games and the 2nd 5 games you'll get a different picture.

We've had a 6 point lead eroded to a 3 point lead with Cardiff still to play.

Yes we're top, yes we're favourites to win the league, but we need wins from our next few home games, nothing less will do or we'll be back in the pack. And that's a fact.

And, for the record, our next 6 home games are:-

                    Burnley (7th)
                    Reading (8th)

                    Preston (20th)
                    Cardiff (2nd)
                    Watford 5th)
                    Swansea (3rd)

So we have 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th and 8th to play at home next. Away matches at Forest, Pompey, Hull and Leeds.

Apart from the Preston game, none look like certain home wins. Just being realistic here folks.

Again, just for the record, Swanseas's matches up to Christmas, two tough games highlighted:-

                    Palace (a)
                    Cardiff (a)
                    Bristol City (h)
                    Boro (h)
                    Doncaster (a)
                    Portsmouth (h)
                    Ipswich (a)
                    Millwall (h)
                    Sheff Utd (a)
                    QPR (a)
                    Barnsley (h)

If I was Brendan Rodgers I'd be wetting myself looking at that, when a lot of the other tops sides will be playing eachother.

Just by way of comparison, here's Cardiff's fixtures till Christmas:-

                      Leeds (a)
                      Norwich (h)
                      Swansea (h)
                      Reading (a)

                      S****horpe (a)
                      Forest (h)
                      QPR (a)
                      Preston (h)
                      Boro (a)
                      Burnley (h)
                      Coventry (h)
                      Watford (a)

Yes I'd take Swansea's fixture list any day.

Swansea aren't good enough and rely totally on Sinclair!
There are no easy games in this league

we've been to Ipswich, derby, sheffield united, palace, Bristol city, Leicester and Swansea away all very very hard places!

Silly stats I think. I do give credit to sirpie but to ignore the watfords and the cardiff fall like a stone I would rather be realistic. If you looked at those stats 3 games ago we would think we are already promoted. We should be looking at the performances of the last 3 games and it definately is a worry. Yes delighted with a point against bristol city but both teams were poor.
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

If we continue with the same people in the same system, IMO, I think we will struggle to stay in the top 2 but if we freshen it up a bit a play players in form, we have a chance of staying near the top. The question is does NW have the balls to freshen it up after he has built everything around one player.
