Reading back in 2005 are the last team not to lose in October and go on to be automatically promoted the following May. Every other team since has lost a match in October. Last season, Newcastle may only have played 4 matches but so to did Cardiff in October and they led the form table having won 3 and drew the other match. None of the teams did particularly well in October but went onto win promotion in May. As SpankwiR has said "if this is our blip then the league is in serious trouble when we come out of it".
