  • Question about managers?

What makes a good manager? i read on here people dont like managers who play hoof football but are sucessful with promotions eg dowie, then theres others who like the name and the style of play eg martinez, and finnally the people who hate the name and have done average in management, what im trying to get at is we need to back the manager who ever! ,theres examples of managers where they've been good at one club and rubbish at others your never get a top class manager we;re only qpr not man utd,if it is magilton who knows it might work, fans liked de canio and he was a strange appointment

Because you need someone that has been there and done it, managers like Coppell, Curbishley, Keane etc all won promotion with average squads and they have the wealth of experience, which is what we badly need (also they are good coaches and can man manage players which is key).

Being linked to Magilton whom spent 12m and failed doesn't exactly inspire many people, other names like Ince, Adams, Wise, Dowie, Vialli, Spackman etc.. ALL FAILED....

As you say, Magilton might sign and it might work. Nothing in football is guaranteed. Anytime a manager signs for any club you look at their past. Even with Sousa we looked to see what he had achieved both as a player and as an assistant because you want to know what sort of manager you are getting. If we signed Magilton we would look at his past and see that he has taken Ipswich from 15th place and has finished 14th, 8th and 9th with them. Not such a bad record but when you consider he spent £12m you would expect a lot better. If we do appoint him are we saying that Ipswich were wrong too? Because they obviously felt he didn't have the qualities to take them up. They have for 3 years finished above us so would Magilton inherit a team that is actually worse than the one he had and failed with? Answer - probably yes.

If we were to appoint Curbishley or Coppell we could look at their records in the same way and know that both have had success at this level and have a wealth of knowledge and respect. Things that Magilton doesn't have.

Majority (including myself) will back him or whoever is appointed but after Dowie and Sousa we should be moving a step forward and not two steps back.
