    Bring back terracing at football

In the harsh economic times, surely clubs would benefit from increased capacities and better revenue by bringing back standing areas at grounds.

Atmospheres would improve too. Who like me, is for bringing back the good old days when the loft boys would stand and sway from side to side whilst initimidating the opposition?

It would never happen unfortunately but I'd love it if it somehow did.

Funny you should say that Bob as I heard 3 different people who were all unconnected with each other mention the same thing yesterday, and I agree with you. As Nik said it will never ever happen again. Bit of a shame.

Makes the F.A. Cup even more of an appeal if we get drawn against a lower league club with terracing.

Isn't there a lobby group that campaigns for a return to terracing? Does anyone know the link to it?

Terracing is allowed in Germany so why not here? If terracing is brought in as an optional thing then surely clubs could phase it back in gradually should they so wish?

You make some really good points here. I wasn't aware continental teams had terracing I always thought it was a Europe wide rule, obviously not.

I agree it should be down to the clubs. As awful as the Hillsbrough disaster was it may still have been a bit of a knee jerk reaction to ban terracing looking at it now in hindsight.

Used to love the Loft when it was standing.

Terracing in the Lower Loft and Lower School End would improve the atmosphere hugely.
Properly placed crash barriers make it as safe as possible.

Hillsborough was a result of the awful fencing in of fans, meaning they could not spill onto the pitch in the emergency which arose -- nothing to do with terracing.

To me, terraces are a traditional part of football, the loss of which has contributed to the sterile and soulless top flight football we have today.

Im sorry but when did the loft ever intimidate anyone?as for standing its all about choice, done the standing and to be fair prefer the seats. Its a right pain when youve got some monster stood in front of you for whole game as used to happen a lot with the sanding. One of the reasons the lads moved to the seats a good few years before everyone else.

The old loft was a loud place to be when full. When the current loftus road stand was built, the terraced loft was downsized. Perhaps we never did intimidate anybody afterall? Opposition teams never liked kicking towards our end as much as they did the school end, but hey, maybe you are right when you question whether the loft ever did intimidate anyone? What do i know!

I can undestarnd the security aspects about terracing, but now with so much technolgy you could restrict it by having a certain amount of supporters. In the old days they would allow anyone in and thats what led to terrible scenes we saw.

The irony of it all, is that I've seen the majority of away fans in the premiership stand up, though now few are being banned on health and safety grounds.

Its a shame thats happening to be honest. Nothing better than standing up to watch a football match-did it at Palace and I think it helps the atmosphere.

Fully agree with bringing back terracing. Look at the Liverpool-Everton game yesterday, how many fans were actually sitting down. Surely it has got to be safer standing on terracing than where there are seats. Think sections such as the paddocks are ideal for use as terracing,
Don't you just love Gianni "I've never done nothing wrong for this club" Paladini..

at my age , its seats all the way for me.

Has seats reduced the level of mindless violence at football? just a question.

                            If so, keep them.

I think it has certainly led to more families and females go to games.

The Paddocks are perfect to open as terracing and there is no logical reason for them not to converted.
