If another employer came in and offered me twice or three times the money I'd be daft to say I wasn't interested.
Loyalty counts for nothing these days.
Footballers are offloaded by clubs without a second thought -- why should players cut off their chances of a pay rise?

And whether or not this comment affects the team depends entirely on whether or not a certain element decides to boo AT or not -- the team won't know who the boos are for and the confidence will go.
No true fan would unsettle the team like that, surely?

On the flip side does anyone really think that any of the other players wouldn't jump at the chance of joining a prem club in january if given the chance? His comment was a sign of immaturity but at least it was honest!!

you lot aint on the right wavelength.
you say he is right to publicly say that he could leave in january to keep newcastle happy, and increase his chances of a bigger wage, but is it also right to alienate the fans of the club he has only just signed for and who help pay his big 3 year contract.
truth is it should never of been said, we aint divvs, we all know football is unforgiving and players are mercenary, but players dont tend go round saying shite like that in public.
i would so love it if newcastle do buy him. (but they wont cos hes not good enough)

I think a few of you are missing the point. Firstly, this isn't like being offered a job with more money, and then going as the offer isn't even there. No one would begrudge him a move if he continues to knuckle down and produce the goods, but he's blatantly talking up a move by suggesting he'd be interested in January. January is just round the corner. Taarabt has been given a lot of responsibility by Warnock, and IMO this is massively undeserved. He's proven he's not captain material by not only being nowhere near our most influential player (I can think of a few who are better captians) but by also openly talking about jumping ship in the New Year when we're sitting top of the league and he's meant to be an important part of our promotion charge.

Bad timing, bad choice of words, and for me a hugely bad attitude being shown by our club captain.

These are the things which disappoint me hugely.

                    In which respect mate?

I think it's a good thing because fans deserve to know how uncommited our club captain is.

But it will mean that more fans will boo him....he'll sulk, want to come off.....no one will sign him and we won't get the benefit of him either.
Whereas if we back him, he'll (hopefully) put in some cracking performances and help us maintain this excellent run. He may then either decide to stay or leave at a tidy profit for us...and we will also be in a good position in the league

                      • i think we should do a march on the ground with a huge petition begging our captain not to leave us at the first transfer window four months into a three year contract.

                        • Why are people reacting like this is some big surprise? We knew who/what we were signing yes?

Putting a vid up will not make a difference. Fans will boo as and when they like. Personally, I'm not one of those as I think it only hurts us. Especially with the form we are in, as it could have a massive reverse effect.

Besides, if he's stupid enough to bang on about moving 4 months into his contract, then he should be big enough to take the critticism.
