Scotland forward Jamie Mackie says he will play anywhere in George Burley’s side if it means he gets the opportunity to take on world and European champions Spain (4/11 to beat the Scots).
The Queens Park Rangers forward made his international debut on Friday night in the 1-0 defeat to the Czech Republic, playing out wide in Burley’s unusual 4-6-0 formation.
Mackie has been in outstanding form this season for the Championship side, scoring eight goals in ten appearances for Neil Warnock’s men.
Despite his excellent scoring record Mackie was somewhat a surprise inclusion in Scotland’s starting eleven in Prague, the former Plymouth man coming in for Rangers’ Kenny Miller.
Miller’s own goalscoring record at international level has normally secured him a starting spot in the Scots first team, but it appears as though he has been dropped for Mackie to get his chance.
Mackie feels he isn’t a direct replacement for Miller and wouldn’t be surprised to see the Gers hitman come in for Tuesday’s crunch clash with Spain.
The Scots have taken four points from their first three games and look unlikely to add to that total as they get ready to face a side who are rightly the 7/2 favourites to win Euro 2012.
Mackie claims he is desperate to have a crack at the world’s best and says he is looking to show what he can do on the international scene.
“I’d be delighted if I played on Tuesday and, if I do, I’ll play wherever I’m told to play,” he added.
“Whoever I play against, I’m very confident in my own ability and I’ll give anyone a game on my night.
“Hopefully I get the chance to show that. And hopefully we’ll get a few more chances offensively.”
