  • Best and Worse Away Games for Atmosphere??

With Swansea coming up that figures in one my worst places for atmosphere, just cannot get it going and we normally don't take that many, along with Preston its pretty awful.

Best place for atmosphere for is Bristol City, one of the few places where you are under some kind of roof standing up at the back at pitch level.

Worst away game recently was Swansea when we lost 2-0, low numbers and no atmosphere, closely followed by Middlesbrough away last season. Best in recent years would be Man Utd in the Carling Cup or Chelsea away (FA Cup). Travelling over to Fulham Broadway tube from Hammersmith was just the start, the 'Bernie & Flabio' chant outside afterwards on the way to the tube station was epic! Mind you everyone singing in the toilets during half-time at Southampton was a great laugh!
22nd February away v Charlton is the 40th Anniversary of my support of QPR and my first game. Away v Chelsea 3-3 23rd Feb 1974. 40 years of pure magic!!

Bristol is good, so is Palace and this year Leicester was good.

Worst for me is the Richo Arena-terrible atmosphere there.

Derby away a couple of years back when we did Knees Up Mother Brown at half time.

To be honest there have many great games and loads of sh1te.

I kind of always enjoyed Luton away for some reason, tight little ground, roof over the away end which generates atmosphere and a little group of wannabees to the right of us giving it large all during the game. The FA Cup game at Chelsea a few years ago was a fantastic atmosphere but then so was Naarwich away under Dowie when we won 1-0(Rowlands scored).
Worst grounds for atmosphere had to be the Dell (southampton), s hit ground, view and atmosphere.
Best atmosphere ever experienced at football was THAT night vs Oldham.
Best atmosphere at a sporting event, Nigel Benn vs Gerald Mclellan. Horrible outcome for the poor american fighter but unbelieveable atmosphere during the fight, spine tingling.

The best atmosphere i have experienced has to be Real Madrid v Athletico Madrid at The Bernabeau, Copa Del Rey Final 92, Athletico won it 2-0 it was mental. Also Italia 90 Semi England v Germany in Turin just the whole thing, even though we lost on penalties what a night.
Best QPR the Semi in 82 v West Brom at Highbury as we won, but the Final at Wembley was good too numbers wise and the occasion.
Don't know about worst, nowadays there are some real **** grounds around that provide no atmosphere at all so it would be a hard one to choose.

For me in recent years has to be Manure away and Villa both in the League cup.

Have to say the numbers at Manure were great, not sure how many but a decent turn out for an evening game. Great night in Manchester also, we were unlucky that night also - dodgy pen.

villa away was a crazy atmosphere. worst ive seen in recent years was ricoh arena,horrible,soul-less ground, horrible soul-less fans, and horrible soul-less players. And we lost 1-0. HORRIBLE!!!! Thought watford away in one of sousa first games when we was 3-0 down after about 30mins was pony aswell, but one highlight was celebrating as if we scored when ephraim hit our first shot at goal after about 73minutes! oneills afterwards made up for it tho, great atmosphere in there
